I recently purchased a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 double cab, long bed. We love the truck but recently the front left wheel has been making a clunking/smacking sound when I go over speed bumps or otherwise articulate/engage the front axle in any way. I don't notice any disturbance in the driving experience other than the audible clunk.

Anyway, at my 5K service appointment today I mentioned this and had the crew look at it. They're response:

"Verified noise. This is norma brake pad shifting that can occur in some models."

Have any of you out there experienced this sound? I was told this much ado about nothing. I'm not so sure and would like your opinion.

    Thanks,
    - Aaron

I'd go to another dealer and don't mention what you think it may be. See if they come to the same conclusion.

That is what I'm thinking. It doesn't sound right, the way a creaky spring might OK. This sounds like metal slapping into metal.

My 08 and 2011 both did it. removed brake pad to caliper pins and put a light amount of never seize on the tetainer pins and reinstall. noise/clunk went away for both of mine.

    My 13 doesn't do it.

See if they have the same model new on their lot and try to replicate the noise. If you can't, ask the service tech to...

My truck does this.2012 dcsb 4x4. They told me the same thing. It can get pretty noisy at when parallel parking lol. I've taken my tires off, and everything is tight. It drives me crazy. Let me know if you find a fix lol

There's another thread on here about this, jut another lovely quirk of the Tacoma. Go to the dealer and pick up a spring set for the pads, remove wheel and install on the top of the pads and they will no longer clunk. Mine were doing this as well over bumps and of course the normal shift after reversing and then stopping forward for the first time.
