When my father had his 03 Tundra undercoated from Toyota, it was a different coating than what was used on the Tacoma's. It dried over a short period of time, and it is still holding up great.

Anyone know if welded sliders would void this? More than likely, right?

Everyone who says that this stuff never dries and is a tar-like substance is right... or maybe I haven't given it enough time. The Toyota dealership told me that the frame coating would dry in a couple days and to park it in the sun, etc.

Well it's been a full week since I had it coated and it's just as gooey as it was the first day. It is very similar to tar. You can touch the frame with your finger and it'll leave a swipe mark. This is kind of annoying because as someone mentioned, the shit will get all over you if you need to crawl under there. Also, it kinda bothers me knowing whenever I ever drive through sand or dirt, especially without the mudflaps on, it's just gonna cake the frame. That's not a good look. Can I go through a car wash and have the undercarriage blasted? I'd feel like it would slowly wash away if I did that.

I don't know about this shit but if it keeps the frame from rotting, especially for free, I'll take it.

I'm all kinds of upset because 6 months ago I took a wirebrush to my entire frame (took a week) and painted the whole thing over... hopefully they can still give me a coating at the very least.

Even though you have a clean frame, they still have to do the CRC coating. Did you receive the letter yet?

My dealer said that my '08 will be prep'd there, then sent out to be undercoated. Only "holes" qualify for complete frame replacement. I was under the truck this weekend and found holes inside the area where the "C" portion of the frame where there are overlapping layers. I'm going back today to show them. Also - do you know that a service such as Ziebart requires annual visits to keep-up the coating? What's Toyota going to do about this?

Going back every year for a touch-up on my truck is complete BS. I'm lining-up my ducks for a fight to replace this frame. I'll update the discussion.

I got my notice the other day in the mail. And I was about to order some 5100's too... I'm going to hold off until it's done. I actually sanded mine all down and did a KB coatings chassis saver kit on it last fall, fluid filmed it, and put in the plugs the new ones have. But the toyota undercoating if done neatly holds up well. My dad's 02 was done 5-6 years ago and it still looks fine. That was after they bought back his 98 because it had holes in it. My brother in law had the frame replaced on his 05 a few months back and surprisingly enough they didn't put the plastic plugs in the holes on the frame.

What part#s did you order for the plugs? I know part# 90950-01957 was listed a few pages back but mentioned that was only for some of the plugs. I'd like to get all the holes in the front covered up on mine eventually.

Since your in RI, you should check out my thread on Auto Rust Technicians, in Cranston. They did a great job on sandblasting the rust off, and undercoating my truck's frame. But since you have a rot hole, I would try to get the dealer to replace the frame. And they are supposed to to the frame coating in-house. What dealer did you go to?

I would also like to hear the rest of the plug part numbers. It would be nice if Toyota came out with a whole kit, but that will most likely not happen .

I should clarify what I mean by holes. The holes in my frame go through only the inner laminate top layer of the "C" part of the rail. You will find the laminated part of the frame under the access door of the cab.

Dealer tells me that you must have a "10mm perforation THROUGH the frame" to qualify for replacement.

I have little faith in aftermarket coatings. I've trying POR15 and Chassis Saver over the years. They only defer the inevitable - maybe by a a year or two at best.

Here's the real stinger: Once Toyota slathers our frames in goo, and we sign the work order; they are legally off the hook for good.

Since we have till Mar. '16, maybe the better bet is to let our frames continue to rot, and hope they go through by then...(?)

Sorry I haven't replied in some time, it took about 1 1/2 days for them to get back to me, dropped it off early one morning and the next day around 1pm, they called and told me they had just gotten word back from Toyota that my truck was approved for new frame etc... I apoligize but I don't have any "before" pictures, didn't think of it. Personally, when I was under the truck, I didn't see any perforation, but there was some joints where layers of rust existed, and it was definitely peeling away, not just surface rust.

Okay, I gotcha. It still sucks that it does not qualify you for a new frame.

I agree with you on POR-15, that stuff absolutely does not work. Pretty much all the undercoatings for consumers does not work that well.

We have till Mar of '16. I'm seriously considering waiting for perforations rather than slathering an ineffective goop. If the goo application didn't legally get Toyota off the hook, I'd be more likely to jump at it. But once it's on, we own the truck and its problems, lock, stock and barrel.

The genuine undercoaters REQUIRE annual follow-up to stay in warranty. What's that tell you about this stuff? Toyota, on the other hand, sprays it once and according to the settlement is done with you.

This is a crap sandwich no matter how you toast it.
