    Kinda off topic, but I've been mulling the idea of getting a rear elocker & diff from a similar year/mileage 3rd4R or 1sttaco that was totaled in a front end collision from a wrecking yard. Any thoughts, good idea or no?

    Gonna need the axle housing as well. And abs shafts if your truck doesent have it

    And a regear if it's a different ratio

    Thank G-d it's not cancelled... I already asked for the time off whenever it is. I'd really like to try the Kokopelli trail as an alternative way of getting there & hoping there are a few others that would like to as well.

    Though I can see the appeal of those SxS's I just can't get over how pricey they are!

    No kidding. My buddy has a RZR 4 900. Great utility to be able to bring 4 people and it does quite well off road but jeebus, it costs almost as much as a new vehicle.

    You can just get the differential assembly that matches your gear ratio. Then modify your axle housing to fit the new differential.

    Damn... just found that my 16" Micky Thompson classic III's are disco'd. they offer one but it's a different BS... need one for my spare, but want to rotate it through rather than keep an unused spare.

    I ran the Kokopelli trail following that guys blog into Moab this year. It was a fun trip for sure.

    Only thing I can add is his directions aren't the best, so get some good maps and study up of the bypasses to the couple single track sections. Or just ask me, I just drove it :D

    How many bypasses did you take? I'm wondering if that's how you finished it so much faster. or if the larger groups really did go that much slower.

    took you what a day and a half?

    Did the same thing with mine. You can modify the existing housing to fit the elocker or get a complete axle. Just figure out your current gear ratio and get a elocker that matches. I have a source for elockers so let me know if you need one.

    4Runners are a bit different. The same axle can be used if you just notch the housing and drill/tap a couple holes. Axle shafts are the same too.

    I followed that guys blog directions exactly. Which had us on the actual trail as much as possible. There's only 2 sections of single track to bypass. We also ran top of the world.

    Started 8 AM Wednesday, set up camp at 8 PM that night. Started at 8:30 the next morning, and we were in Moab at about 3. It was over 150 miles total, I guess we were just efficient and effective. There's no reason that should take 3 days.

    Sweet ok yeah was thinking of running it on a long weekend if i got a chance and just wanted to make sure I had the time. though I will be taking tons of pics so I imagine it'll take me two full days
