I tell my GF straight up, how much I spend and all. Her dad worked on trucks when she was young so she kinda likes it, as long as I let her drive dah hoerunner.

So, I told my wife I was going to Moab next year and she was like, you mean us right? I then said SURE! I gotta get the truck ready for it and again she said OKAY! Didn't ask how much or anything. She said yea, I figured you would need to get skids, lift it higher bigger tires, bumper and a winch. I added maybe a front locker to the list! So definitely going next year. Just gotta get the 4runner ready!!!!
OH, she was talking about buying a RTT!!! I asked her if she had bumped her head at work or anything!

 

I started looking at rtt last night on duty.... Not a good idea. 1. Stayed up way to late like right now. 2. Expensive and I just sold my 1st Gen so it's really tempting but I has a baby boy due at the end of the month. Thankfully we don't have to buy anything except diapers

 

an rtt is the worst idea for moab unless its on a trailer or you plan on removing your bed rack and leaving it at camp

 

Why is that? The weight and raised center of gravity?

 

well that is a big one too (not to mention tipping into places and tight squeezes can certainly snag it)...but do you really want to set up and take down camp every single day you are out there? This is a rock crawling trip, not a go camping in the woods exo trip. You have base camp, go wheel the fuck out of your truck during the day and when you finish you end up back at the same place every night. Why bring your camp with you?

That might be true but to save some loot when we travel I may just sleep in the rtt while driving cross country.

What do you think about wheeling in moab with a low profile rack like mine. Still think it will snag on things? Thanks for your input. This is the kind of information us newbies need to know before we roll up!

 

This is true. Didn't think about it like that. I rather buy a reg old tent to leave at base camp. Save the cash I would spend on a rtt and spend a little cash on cheap motels on the ride there to crash at.

 

Ok. I didn't know we would be going back to the same place to camp. Will be bringing a regular tent! That's $1000 towards something else!

 

That definitely settles my ongoing rtt vs tent debate

Go on east coast gear supply's website and price out a built 3rd member. It cost a bit more at first but most go ahead and regear as well since you'll be tearing into the diffs anyway. They're not bad to install yourself as I did my own. I see you're in florida I could always come up and give you a hand
