What all are you swapping out? Converting from automatic trans to manual, then 4WD as well?

I have 2 front bumpers. One is for a '95.5 (Dave's old front bumper) and the other is a '97. (My old bumper)

While it is a fun task to overtake, I will be honest with you that it would cost you less money in the long run to just sell the prerunner, and buy a 4WD manual truck. In general you would need an whole new front end, (diff, spindles, CV axles, etc) as well as the transmission and transfer case, clutch pedal, etc. A donor truck would be nice, but as you mentioned, these things are near impossible to find without already having major damage.

Don't get me wrong, it CAN be done, there is a guy I am working with that is doing it, but his costs have gone pretty high on it, and he isn't even finished with it yet. Just food for thought. Not sure if you want to get wheeling in any time frame, or if time is not an issue at all.

x2 with bill on this. Were I to approach something like this, I'd upgrade the axles to dana 44's or tons or something at least... Might as well make it a worthwhile upgrade if you're going to do it. Or at least an 80s SAC. What's the point just to get front IFS?

Ah well. The 99 I have I don't think you would want the front bumper.

I've considered that for about 2 years now but with the amount of money invested in the truck and it's condition, I would be an idiot to sell it. I'm a huge fan of the first gen body and I also have a custom camper shell on the back with a bedding set-up built in the back for when I camp or travel around the U.S. I do a lot of traveling so I would have to do this to any new truck that I bought. The truck is almost exactly the way I want it minus the manual/4wd. I dropped the oil pan this past weekend to replace the gasket and the cylinders were immaculate even after almost 200k miles. I've read up on several others projects and they have all been between 1-2k in parts which is beyond reasonable given the cost of selling and buying a new tacoma and the fact that if I continue to maintain mine it could easily hit 300-400k miles. I've always loved working on vehicles, even when I was a kid so to do something of this degree myself would be worth the extra cost alone.

Sold it to some guy up here. It will be gone in the am! Pay bills off and then start some college funding, well truck funding for caiden when it is that time. Also might see camping parts start up for next year for rock therapy. Also spare truck parts. Hola Tacomabilly. What year is your truck. I have some spare spindles for 4wd and spare wheel bearing for one of them. If interested lemme know and I'll bring them down.

The choice is yours of course. I have just been there and seen it, and it never comes out to what you expect it to come out to. Just wanted to put my $.02 worth in there since I do a lot of builds and custom work. I will say this, trying to knock all of that out in a day would be most improbable. I would suggest set aside 2 days for the work, and a 1 day shakedown/adjust time before you take her out on the road. If you need any info by all means, hit me up.

So this weekend is the Marion Rodeo! Tonight the 13th and tomorrow night the 14th. Gates open at 7pm. If anyone wants to come down and check us out again it would be great to have ya! This is year 2 of us being a major sponsor, and we plan to have our LED lighting and strip lights, as well as the accent interior lighting out on display! The rodeo is on hwy 14, just east of downtown Marion! Come check it out!! I have a couple of free tickets. Lots of fun for everyone, and events for the kids as well. :turtleride:
