TC lowers did their job well as it was lodged in there as i drug it across the rocks








had another go at upchuck


but shut me down again...being a heavy beast with a stick led me to back down and save it for another day...my clutch hates me enough as it is

saturday before the raffle we went out to explore flat iron mesa area


some fun obstacles throughout


including the chute


with the proper exit looking gnarly up close (much taller than it appears in this photo)


there is a bypass to the whole chute area, then there is a bypass up the side of the chute which i took...some ledges along an area going up the side








from there to the intersection of a co rd that cuts through the trail, there wasn't much...we skipped the second half so we could have some time to shoot stuff and still make it back in time to setup...

definitely need to make it back there!

Nice build. Maybe I missed someone asking but how do you like your new Boss springs compared to the old Dakar's now that you've had them for a few months?

 

it will depend on your setup...

keep in mind these are a 2" lift leaf pack versus a 2.75"/3" lift pack from Dakar

and these were not designed for a shackle flip

that being said, these allowed me to keep my height down to a 2.5"ish lift which i like. with the bed rack and RTT up there, keeping it low helps..plus 2.5" & 35s looks bad ass IMO

with the shackle flip, the leaf pack is flat at ride which is not ideal...but with a reverse shackle (factory) setup, this should not be the case...

but they flex very well on the trail...with the shackle flip, i am able to utilize the full 11" of travel from these bilsteins...i did not get that with the dakar pack

although they are for a 2" lift, the leaf pack is longer than the dakar pack which is why i think they are able to pull better numbers...

driving around they give a great ride...

my big downfall on my rear setup is my uptravel, but that's a problem i will face if i keep my lift low like it is...

unfortunately, the best option for me going forward is a custom leaf pack to work better with the shackle flip if i stay that route...i keep getting pushed back into a reverse shackle setup though which would help with my leaf options

 

Who made your shackle flip? Isn't ATO's adjustable or did you get the early version?

adjustability isn't the issue, it's the difference between the two mounting positions and how the shackles work...as with any leaf pack you see with the 2nd gens, they are designed to work with the reverse shackle design

load capacity and spring rates are different when flipping the shackle mounts...

i do have the old ATO kit, but i had two kits...one was for the Dakar short pack and the other was for a longer leaf pack which works good with these leafs...shackle angles are good at ride height and i get full motion with drooping out without inverting..so there's not much i could change with the shackle flip to make it any better..

 

find me a money tree to support this movement and i'm down

You still have your reverse mounts or did they get jacked up taking them off? Might check with Brady if you're looking for some, he might still have his. Not sure if you'd want to put the stock back on tho when you could use measurements and cut some nice mounts out of 1/4 or something... If you get me calipered measurements on the mounts i could possibly draw something up wit ACAD

it would be a great idea if someone could come up with a better design for the reverse shackle design....

i know the SUA setups have beefier setups, but they hang lower than the factory mounts, so it helps but hurts...plus you have to get the rest of the SUA package which $$

but a nice factory replacement mount would be nice

 

right!? i'd like one at some point. I know i'm staying reverse shackd. If I get a drawing done i'll see if I can get CBI to cut out the pieces for me on their table and i'll take a trip up there and have em slapped on. I'll let them know you might want a set too and it may help

Bob the photos are awesome. I am curious do you take all of your shots in HDR? Just wondering on that and also how are you "burning" in the sky on some of those shots? Is that a function of PS?

 

you'll notice on the file names whether they are HDR or not...

with things that are moving, HDR is not an option...so i did HDR anytime i could, but the action shots are all non-HDR.

we also had two cameras out there...my 60D was primarily all shot in HDR with exception to the dunes session...kayla had the t1i and shot primarily non-HDR

 

i still haven't found the "proper" entrance i think...there is a hill climb that is talked about in the descriptions but i never saw anything that seems to fit the descriptions...but it seems like i see "BTR" signs from the beginning, so idk...i know we hit most of the beginning (except the first hill climb) then head off at the "prostitute rock" or "lone rock" where balcony and picture frame arches are...

 

Cool thanks. I have the HDR option on mine but I am still experimenting with it. Now from the sounds of it I have to buy a second camera too.
