2002 trd taco v6 crew cab Uneven tire wear?

I bought this truck 3 months ago.. and the guy who sold me the truck said he had the strut replace with kyb's =(.. anyhow i been having some shake as im driving on the freeway.. around 65-70 mph and up... So today i took it to a tire shop and they said my shocks mite be out, passenger front the guy put his hand on top of the tires and show me it was a uneven tire. the middle tread was higher then the treads on both sides.. does anyone have this problem? is it my shocks or is it not balnace right? if someone can please help? thanks

 

Worn out edges (both edges) usually means under-inflation. What tire pressure are you running at?

Bad shocks usually gets you tire cupping....and you didn't mention that..?

Shakes at 65mph can be from improperly balanced tires, bad or bent wheels, or poor allignment.

I'd start by rotating your tires and see if the shaking changes frequency and feel and go from there....

 

okay my passenger front tire is worn on the outside of the tire.. on both sides. leaving the middle tread higher then the sides. does that mean it's the shock? sorry i diden't explain it well.. is that what cupping means? btw i'll find out the tire pressure tomorrow.. and if it is the shocks what kind should i go with im on a budget.. =(

 

How many miles on the tires? How much life is left on your tires?

Just curious.... I had a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT's (on my 96 tacoma)that had about 35-40K miles on them when I noticed that only the outter edges wearing (like you mention). I had this truck for about 5 years and on the truck when I bought it. They still had some life left in 'em when I sold the truck. In those 5 years, I had 2 different sets of coils installed (lifts), and 2 different sets of struts (shocks) installed and countless allignments. I tried to find out why the tires were wearing like that - but decided it was the tires getting *funny* as they aged......
I honestly don't know....

Tire cupping is an uneven pattern around the circumfrance - here's an image to demonstrate. This is a drastic case...kinda ..the only way to show it.

It can also be caused by improper balancing or mechanical problems.

 

I'm gonna throw something else on top of Janster's great advice here-walk about 10 steps from the front of your truck (level ground) and just eyeball it from the center..are both tires' stance the same..does the truck appear level or is there a sligt lean..does the tire in question appear to be further inside the wheel well than the other or viceversa? I'm suggesting an accident in this truck's history just a thought-I'd have that checked 'cause it sounds like the caster/camber on that side is way off. How does it drive-is the steering wheel straight on level ground or do you have to hold it?

 

I took the truck to discount tires today.. they said tire pressure was good..
they said the caus of it was the alignment thats' why it ended up cupping.. so i'll just get new front tires and get the alignment done. hopefully it will go away and not come back =) also the car drives stright when im driving it no pulling to the side at all.. but i know what ur talkin about my buddie's car does pull hard to one side after the accident. but yea thanks for the advice =) and thanks janster for the pics too.
