What about the Tacomas over seas that they use for fighting in the wars over there. Driving through all that sand every day and they keep going and going, doesn't look like they have a rust problem. I think OZ-T hit it on the nose. Why not use a stainless frame like Ford is doing on there 150's. Does the 4 Runner use the same frame? If so are they having problems.

Places close to beaches have salty air. if you read a post i made above i talked about this. places close to beaches also usually have a lot of humidity quite often and the humid air + salty air is will cause rust.

just like how steel bridges and steel on buildings will have to be painted more often to prevent rust.

We had CONSTANT trouble with paint and rust from our vehicles deployed in Iraq and Kuwait. They only keep going and going because they are CONSTANTLY being repaired, cleaned, and repainted.

Not talking about our vehicles. You see these Tacoma's on the news that have guns mounted to them, All beat up but they seem to keep going.

It's the recycled steel they are making the frames out of. That steel can't take the salt...

And I always thought Toyotas were made from recycled soda cans...

If they were, aluminum doesn't rust....

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
That's why Toyota should address the issue nationally, roughly 40% of the population lives close to the beach according to NOAA.

Received notification today about frame rust. I live in Maine and coated frame with por 15, after last years state vehicle inspection. The mechanic said the only rust on the entire truck was on the frame - everything else looked new.

Here is the deal about the salt issue. The photo shows the front of my 2005 Tacoma where the anti sway bar attaches to the frame. The bracket on the drivers side simply fell out of the frame with the bolts still attached. The fame is completely shot.
NOT ONE SPECK OF RUST ON THE BRACKET!
So if some one tells me my problems are "salt" related I gotta say bull****.
