I recently changed the spark plugs in my 06 taco 4.0. I went with the E3 spark plugs to try them. I want opinions on if I should have gone with the NGK XI Iridium plugs instead or if it really doesn't make too much difference. I am aware the E3 are not Iridium and they might not be real Platinum either but possibly coated.

If you didn't get your plugs from the parts dept at your Toyota Dealer, you got the wrong ones. (and spent too much)

I think that you will have to tell us if you see any improvement in MPG. Only a dino test could show real performance change.
Here is a little video that may give some information.

I think there was a small increase in MPG but not too much. As for getting OEM from the dealer, I think that would have cost more money in my opinion. I actually work at a parts store so I beleive the NKG Iridium XI would have cost me a little bit more than the E3's. I also installed a KN intake after the plugs went in so the MPG went up with that some as well. I will have to try to get on a dyno for laughs I think.

I spent 3 dollars per spark plug at the dealer, when you spend more than that on a plug that isn't designed for the motor you are putting them in, you lose mpg and performace. The k&n intake has been proven many times to actually decrease mpg. Your best bet is to stick to OEM when it comes to your Toyota.

chad you are telling me you have never put aftermarket stuff in your truck? I would like to know what plugs you are considering as OEM because mine had Denso in one bank and NGK in the other. So I am unsure as to which would truly be OEM

    Getting there...

Tacomas come from factory like that; half and half. That's what is OEM.

NGK and DENSO split is due to a contract between the two manufactures.... been like that for a LONG time, i think since the original 1st gen taco with the 3.4L 5VZ-FE

apparently the DENSO's for the 4.0L are better than the NGK's (they show less signs of wear)

Either way, stick with OEM plugs.... regardless of the source you get them from.

ok, so the opinion is OEM should be denso over NGK? Because they both offer Iridium plugs and I know the original plugs were copper. I did contact the local yota dealer today and they said they put in iridium densos.

OEM, Denso or NGK is what most people here go with.

sounds like when I get to work I will look into the NGK Iridium XI then since it is the most readily available to me. Thanks for all the opinions.
