Hey guys! I'll be flying down to San Diego Sunday morning and flying back home Thursday evening. I need some ideas on what to do for Sunday and Thursday. I'll be flying in with my 5 year old daughter and staying at Days Inn near SeaWorld.

I thought about Belmont amusement park for Sunday but most rides my daughter will not be able to ride due to her height. Thought about Birch Aquarium in La Jolla but what afterwards? Thought about Catalina Island to visit her grandma and grandpa on her moms side but how awkward will that be since her mom and I are no longer together.

On Thursday, I was going to plan for the zoo but didn't realize how expensive it was. I was planning to do something fairly close to the airport so I don't miss my flight due to traffic.

...and what's the best place for them California Burrito? Only place I've had them was at Robertos when I was stationed on Camp Pendleton.

    :)

You could check out the tide pools after the aquarium since you are already in the area.
Maybe even check out seaport village if you daughter is into looking around at outdoor mall stuff. I'd even check out groupon san diego area before you fly out here for more ideas.

Catalina is a super expensive boat ride plus parking and all that stuff.

I still have not found the best Mexican place for Cali Burritos , but I did find the best grilled mahi fish tacos I've even had. It called South Beach Bar & Grill. Go sit up on the top floor and you can see the ocean. I'd just recommend being there for lunch with your daughter. It is Ocean Beach and it is pretty hippy friendly along that area. But you know all the good food is in crappy areas. Maybe someone can chime in for awesome burritos in the downtown area.

Download the Yelp app. That should help you find a good Mexican place in the area you'll be staying in.

Thanks! I read up on Seaport Village, I might give it a go if I don't head to Belmont Amusement park. I figure at Belmont, we can walk around and look at other stuff as well after riding some rides that she can go on.

I agree with the crappy area = best burrito! If they can speak English fluently, give it a pass :p

My concern is getting lost downtown San Diego; I know San Diego is HUGE compared to Portland

I also took a quick glimpse at groupon and living social, nothing caught my eye at that moment but I'll take a gander at it better tonight.

Balboa, I know where that's at! Glad it's next to the zoo! That way I know it's near the airport and will most likely do this on Thursday to kill time before departure :)

I had yelp awhile ago but the darn thing always crashed on my phone, maybe they've updated it.

If I head to the Aquarium I'll definitely see what yelp says after I re-download the app.

I almost forgot the San Marcos Fry's is a pretty cool place to visit :D

Railroad Museum way out in Campo, The USS Midway museum, the San Diego Zoo is the best attraction I think... and the Safari Park (Wild Animal Park) near Escondido. Legoland is great for small kids, in Carlsbad. Most taco shops have any burrito you like. Palomar Mountain Observatory (was the world's biggest most of my life)... There is just so much to see and do in San Diego... and the city is not that big... easy to get around except during traffic times (3:30-6 pm weekdays). Oh, the Del Mar Fair is on now... I think it is about the biggest county fair in the country... on through July 4th weekend.

    ^ +1.

Del Mar Fair is probably good fun for a 5 year old plus not expensive.
New Children's Art Museum in Downtown is pretty cool http://www.thinkplaycreate.org/
Balboa Park Natural History Museum? May be too much for a 5 year though.
Hornblower Harbor Cruise is inexpensive and fun.
Maybe also rent a small Kayak or go with a group in La Jolla Cove area.
Can try getting her a kid surf lesson. Seems like a cool California thing to do.
    Crystal Pier in PB

Not sure about the prices on Lego Land (you can probably find a shuttle bus from Downtown/Airport/Hotel Circle area) and Wild Animal Park.

Man, i don't know about this place. I forced myself to eat there 4 or 5 times and can't stand any of their food. Drive 1 mile up the hill to 1st & Washington and go to El Cuervo. Thats where its at!

Zoo is free for you if you are active duty. Tickets can be cheap from ITT on base down there.

We just had what Portland calls "Rose Festival" and man was shit expensive. Each ride cost 8-10 tickets which equals to about $2.00 - $2.50 per ride.

Del Mar Fair looks pretty huge from the looks of it on their website compared to my local Washington County Fair, let alone the state fair. I thought about Lego Land, Universal Studios, and Knotts Berry Farm as well as the mentioned above in OP but I figure I've spent too much money already for the events Monday - Wednesday (2-Day hopper at Disneyland and a day at SeaWorld), car rental, hotel, and flight.

I'm no longer active :( I never had to pay previously and I took a look the other day and was

This is more of the route I am leaning towards the more I look at it. I never really had a chance to explore that area when I used to live down there. I already know what words will come out of my daughters mouth after X amount of hours walking, "My legs are tired...:(

Just looked at Groupon and LivingSocial, nada. I think I'll most likely do Seaport Village or Belmont on Sunday and then Birth Aquarium on Thursday post hotel check out.

Thanks guys! If you guys or anyone have more suggestions that is kid friendly and relatively cheap, feel free to drop a few here :)

I'd say Legoland, but it's up in Carlsbad... Also not sure of the cost since I've never been.

Pruchai, you can say that again!

Belmont park was fun, some good looking girls there. I enjoyed their lifeguard vehicle hehe New 4runner and Tacoma. I'm all burnt from the sun even though I applied sunscreen multiple times. My daughter had a blast there; got to our hotel, took a bath, and now shes out snoring :)
