My gf and I just got a new puppy over the weekend. She's a lab mixed with what we are guessing is a hound or heeler. She was the runt of her litter, but by the look of those paws....she might be a big one.

I really hope so. She had some health issues before we got her, but the vet said she is good to go now. Me too...I could use the exercise! :D

I'd prefer catahoula to heeler. I don't really want her to be trying to heard all the time or nipping at people. My sister has a couple of catahoulas. They're great outdoor dogs and full of energy. :goingcrazy:

You can train the nipping out pretty easy. My pup was done nipping in the first couple months. He still chews my finger when I let him but that's just cause it's been his favorite chew toy since he was a pup. I let him mouth it the whole 3 day car ride after I picked him up from the breeder.

The herding ends up being more of a game than a bad habit. We run him around the house and he'll try to herd other dogs at the dog park but he stopped herding kids when he lost the rest of his puppy habits.

Catahoolas are good dogs too. I've met a few around here. Couldn't go wrong either way.

Thanks for for the input. It's reassuring to know you've had good success. I've been around heelers some, but not in a long time and I haven't had one of my own. I'm pretty much going off what I've been told by one or two other people. I guess a large part of a grown dog's behavior comes from how it was raised.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
So I am being a good boy, and changing my diff and transfer case fluids, when all of a sudden I get a helper. Pushed me right off the cardboard!! He LOVES his mobile crate, just wanted to make sure Dad did it right!!

If u haven't got a boxer then you haven't lived life to the fullest. i'm on no #3 and they are without doubt the greatest of all. The rescue I have now interacts with the other 5 rescue with the greatest of ease...almost like he knows they were rescued just like him.....:)
