Detroit lockers are very bomb proof. I'm running one in my 35 spline 9" on the tundra

It's noticeable on slow speed corners like turning right at a light. It can slam in pretty hard mid corner. The links play a big part in that though. Overall I would recommend it to people who aren't prissy. It's amazing offroad.

And username do not take this as me bursting you bubble or trying to talk you out of the 9.5" but the 9.5" and a race built 9" are not very comparable. Don't judge a 3rd member by it's gear size alone. A race built 9" has way bigger bearings, a nodular case, billet pinion support and many other features a 9.5" does not have. I've seen the cast cases on 9.5"s shatter.

No doubt, but a "real" 9" race rear end is north of $10k. For my budget of $5k I couldn't come up with anything 6 lug that would work width wise. I could have done a budget currie semi floater reusing stock taco drum brakes, but would it be stronger than a 9.5? That's the question. Either choice is better than the 8" I'm running, and it makes it about 30,000 miles before grenading. I'd be happy to stretch the grenade interval out to 50,000 miles. Could have also went with a rock jock 60, but the lead times are measured in months and spare parts are hard to find. Logistics was a big factor in my decision.

You could piece together a full fabbed housing, 35 spline simi floater 9" with a racing 3rd for around $5k-$6k if you're smart about it. With the hp you're running that should last a very long time with good fluid and regular check ups. But like I said I'm not trying to talk you out of the 9.5" which is a great choice.

Seems like that should be true. Go click the add to cart button for a complete axle and get back to me. 6 lug, 67" width, fabricated housing with an ebrake and a Detroit. Oh, and to be fair to the 9.5 build, disk brakes. It may be possible, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

The biggest downfall on Toyota rear ends vs a 9" is that the Toyota doesn't have the extra bearing at the end on the pinion gear to prevent deflection of the gears. Once that happens gears get shredded in no time. I don't care if it's a 16" ring gear, it's still a weak link

I've never heard of them before. I checked currie, ruffstuff, camburg, and most of the major parts suppliers before deciding on Diamond. I know it's not bombproof, but it's bound to be better than stock (which lasted about 30,000 miles per third). I also wanted a fabricated housing with 3.5" tubes, and those run about a grand. That adds to the cost of any build for sure, and I suppose it is overkill. I wish there were more places that listed prices on their sites. It sucks waiting a week to get a call back on a quote...

ruffstuff will not be making any more 9" for the time being. they are working on a new way to get the turn around time even faster. i was able to sneak my order in and get the last one for a while. i believe they don't even have the 9" on the website anymore if i recall. call camburg and ask for carlos and see what kind of price he can get you on a full set up.

I did. Camburg was over budget for me. Besides, I've already pulled the trigger on the diamond.
