2014 Formula 1 Season Paddock

Love the older car pics, and video footage, especially how the drivers look like they are sitting way too high.

 

What a exciting race! I fell asleep (super tired) and only caught the last 5 laps but rewatched it today. Exciting from start to finish.

It did seem like lots of car issues. Rosberg, Hamilton, and Perez. Might have been more. Hard to say exactly what happened with Perez. Team says the brakes were fine at that point but could have still failed again for all anyone will know. All that is truly important is both drivers are ok. Vettel is lucky and was probably damn glad the yellow came out as that would be incredibly scary to have a car slide in front of you mere inches from hitting you. And Maasa that would be just as scary. Seeing Vettel and thinking o crap and then a straight slide towards the wall.

 

I was puzzled why Ferrari was so fast in FP 1 and FP 2 but seemed slower in qualifying and the race and after listening to the BBC 5Live F1 podcast apparently they decided to remove some of their updates from the car after FP2 because they were concerned about overheating the energy recovery units similar to what ended up happening to both Mercedes cars , look for them to be a bit quicker in Austria but really they can't do anything major till next season now with the engine upgrades essentially locked for the season

So far Webber's Porsche is 5 laps down but still 18 hours to go.

The new F1 sounds are similar in person , especially during braking

I wonder if it's the difference between the mic being outside in on the F1 cars and enclosed in the cockpit on the LMP1 cars

 

The Audi is very quiet in person and just sound like a whoosh where as the Toyota has a slight scream to it. Heard both at COTA this past year and am curious to hear the Porsche.

It'll be interesting to hear the new F1 cars in comparison as well.

 

Was tuff to see Porsche and Webber end in the garage but Audi did a good job handling their problems. Well done Toyota for making the podium

The comments in that link are pretty good.
I'm not sold on this new formula, but I'm not sure all is lost.
I think what the sport needs right now is more variables.
Maybe one company's aero is better, maybe another has better engines. The regs are so tight now that it is hard to overcome just one minor deficiency.
Throw in more tire suppliers and choices, no mandatory tire changes, no max fuel or delivery, and less leeway in aero and things would get interesting.
