I am fixing to close on my 09 DC 4x4 off-road and was wondering how fast has everyone gotten their rebate back from Toyota? I will have a $1500 rebate, but my dealer said that I have to buy the vehicle within that month of the incentives. I thought it was an instant rebate? Thanks

Well, has anyone had to deal with a dealership that has a mail in rebate?

The rebate is worked into the selling price, as instant cash back from toyota. No waiting for a check - instant gratification.

    *edit*

The cash incentives usually change month to month so you have to buy during the month that the incentive is active to get it.

Thats what I thought, but apparently my dealer is not doing that. can anyone verify this from a Southeast dealership? I don't know if they do it differently. THanks

That sounds kind of scummy to me ... I'd check with another dealership.

OK, I finally found out my answer! If you are buying out of state, then it depends on the dealer if they want to add the rebate to the price. The reason is that the dealers have to wait until the new owner reg the vehicle before they get the money from toyota. Sometimes it can take several months. My dealer said that they want me to do it on my own since I am buying out of state. They told me that they are having a hard time getting the cash for clunkers rebates from the government and do not want to hassle with out of state buyers. They told me that they are waiting on over a million dollars from the cash for clunkers program. I can understand why though. Just though I'd post this for future buyers. Thanks for all replies!

yeah, we got a $500 rebate and it was taken off of the price of the car. We got the truck at invoice - $500 rebate so we paid $500 below invoice.

So essentially the dealer is saying the hassle should be on you to get your money back from either Toyota or the Government with the CARS program....sorry, but I'd take my business elsewhere.

BTW, Toyota offer a $400 for military, make sure you inquire about that as well as the normal rebate being offered.

Find another dealer, and make a call into Toyota and let them know what the dealer is doing.

I bought in North Carolina (south east). Rebate was taken off of the purchase price, there was never even a question about whether or not it would be. I am out of state. Live in Virginia. Made the purchase 1 month ago today, exactly.

Actually I've never had it not be taken off the purchase price, this is the third vehicle I've gotten new that had a rebate.

Also it seems like if they didn't take it off the purchase price immediatly on the invoice you would have to pay more taxes on the truck? Or maybe it doesn't count anyway, idk.

However you sign something saying that the dealer will recieve the rebate instead of yourself.

I imagine it'd have to be a pretty sorry dealership if they weren't willing to part with $1500 until toyota mails them a check. It isn't like they don't know if they can count on it, they just have to wait for it.

Good point....Another reason to tell the sealer to pound sand if they don't want to give you the rebate upfront.
