careful with that. was running a rally cross course down here with a friend. i was in 2wd, he was in 2wd locked both double cab second gens). we went around the same corner, on the same line, and at the same speed. i made the turn, he went head on into a tree. driver error played a huge part of course, but until you brake the rear end loose, it's easy to understeer on higher traction surfaces.

I'll be in debt forever..lol at least it feels that way. I like my toys too much. One good thing I'll finally have these student loans paid off in about 7 months!

Amen to that. I just consolidated my school loans and it's not pretty. Might pay my toys off before my school loans

Nope, still have to order the clutch and crawl box. Everything else is assembly for the most part. I won't be posting many pictures, just little teasers. Still deciding on tires too.

student loan interest is tax deductible. But I knocked them down as fast as I could afford by transferring $2-$3,000 at a time to 0% interest credit cards. I wanted all my student loans paid off in 5 years (not the 10-15 years they amortize them at when you graduating where you spent just as much in interest as on the loan itself). Needless to say the $800 payments I have been making per month has sucked big time! But it will be amazing to have that in my pocket every month once these are out of the way and I can actually live my life ahhhhhhhhhhh the light at the end of the tunnel.

I think the conversion is very doable. Just don't add up how much you will spend.

People look at it different when it's say, $3500 up front compared to a $25k loan over 5 years.

At this point since I'm an RN there's a program where I can pay $250 a month for 10 years and then they are forgiven so let's see.

It's not so much reliability. It's that manual hubs give you more options. Right now, unless you want to be constantly spinning your whole front driveline or putting excessive wear on your diff, you are pretty much limited to an ARB if you want a locker up front and you can forget about a spool or a Lincoln locker. Manual hubs allow for any of these with almost no penalty while providing the additional benefit of not having to spin your CV axles and spider gears while driving under normal road conditions, which saves wear and tear, fuel, and can reduce vibrations.

If you operate your 4WD in extreme road conditions like snow and ice, then yeah, I agree with you that having to get out to lock the hubs would suck, and really, from what I understand, you wouldn't want any type of locker but a selectable in that case anyway. Down here in Hell-on-Earth land where we don't get a lot of snow and ice, it's not that much of a concern. Likewise, if your rig is a dedicated trail rig, it's not that much of a concern.

That said, I don't think I'd want to pay $2k for the privilege of having more options and a negligible amount of fuel savings gained by not spinning the CVs constantly. It might begin to look more appealing if I was sick of replacing CV axles/boots due to blown out boots caused by operating them at an excessive drive angle, but there are other solutions for that (boot slide mod).

Hey guys, despite it having grown on me, I am moving out of Florida back to Atlanta and my truck is now for sale. I'll post it over in the classifieds section as well. I welcome any feedback regarding the truck or the ad.
I do plan to stay with Toyota and I'm looking for a 3rd or 4th gen 4Runner right now...I'd just rather have the space on the inside and an older truck I'm not always stressing about.
