115,000 on a 3.4! That's low enough miles for another 10+ yrs. Definitely worth doing.haha

I was in a similar situation with mine last year. I ended up getting a motor from a shop in Washington state. Great group of guys to deal with. Motor came with a warranty and all. I'll see if I can find the paper work.

That's a great truck. Rebuild the engine and keep driving it.

    ^^this

wouldn't it still be cheaper to figure out why it's not holding compression and rebuild as opposed to getting even a gently used one?

Here's a Dude in Vermont with a supercharged 3.4 for $1,500. You'll need to buy an ECM, too.

    TOYOTA 4x4 custom parts - $2400 (Brownsville)

    TOYOTA PARTS--Custom offroad and performance

IF YOU NEED SOMETHING TEXT ME AN OFFER WORST I CAN DO IS SAY NO. i want to see this stuff get used.

    MOTOR

1500$ obo SUPERCHARGED 3.4L from a 1996 toyota tacoma. I have a normal 3.4L in my rockcrawler and it is NASTY. I cant even imagine this what this motor would be like. It needs computer cuz guy i got it from thought it was something special. After some research all you need is a 5spd computer from a 1997. Make your buggy RIP

22R BUILT Has alot of $$ into. Prob 1500-2000$ anyways. Bored 0.075 over lots of bottom end work. High performance crankshaft, connecting rods everything replaced in bottom end. But when they built it i think they messed up the piston rings and it made it smoke terrible. So the bottom end is really only worth motor parts for building a different motor. I dont build motors but if you do this is the beginning of ONE NAST 4cyl. It would be something to brag about for sure. When dialed in this motor shoulda been pushing 150HP n maybe more. Which doesnt sound like much but with this lil motor youd better hold on. Lol

THIS HEAD WILL BOLT UP TO YOUR EFI MOTOR and make your lil anemic 4cyl RIP

LC ENGINEERING 22RE HEAD STAGE II
About 1600-2000$ invested in. All ported polished and honed and set up with ALL LC ENGINEERING STAGE2 equipment. AND new highperformance cam with new rockers etc. I DID NOT SKIMP ON THIS BUILD.

400$ DUI HIGH OUT PUT DISTRIBUTOR

    150$high output alternator

    100$ adjustable timing gear

    450$ WEBER DGAV OUTLAW CARB

**These are the prices i paid for new

    DRIVTRAIN

    400$ T100 tacoma 5spd MARLINCRAWLER adapter mate to 23spline gear drive 87-88

    YOU WANNA CRAWL??
    NV4500 GM 1ton transmission
This tranny will still be a daily driver transmission. Its a 4spd w 5th gear Overdrive
This bolts right to stock 22re in original location. Stock length driveshafts. NO FAB WORK NEEDED. Just some floor trimming for shifter
NV4500 1TON 5spd transmission w 400$ adapter mating it to 22re bellhousing and 400$ adapter mating it to stock toyota TCase
1000$OBO for the whole setup. 3/4/5 gears whine a bit cuz they need new wear pads installed. Mechanic says its easy to do.

GET YOUR PROJECT ON THE TRAIL THIS YEAR! What do you need? Make an offer! Im not gonna give this stuff away but will def make you a killer deal on whatever you need.

Best choice, throw in a rebuilt/used motor and drive it another 100k+. It's a very clean truck!

Second choice, my sister just totalled her VW bug and is looking for a new car... Sell it to her as-is and I'll throw a motor in it for her. ;)

The guy who checked it out said it was essentially a 3 cylinder at this point and did I want to proceed any further with diagnostics and I said no. He told me what I needed to know.

Guys I really appreciate all the advice and websites. The compliments are nice too. This was my baby (as I'm sure all your trucks are) for a long time and she was a good one.

I'm going to look at all the websites you guys provided and make a decision. Much appreciated.

Speaking from experience, don't buy an engine online. There's a lot of great companies out there, yada yada yada. They will even completely replace your engine if the one they give you doesn't work; except for the fact you have to pay return shipping and pay for the engine to be removed by an ASE certified mechanic. by the time you pay for it to be returned you could have bought a brand new motor from toyota (ok maybe not quite but close!).

My advice: buy the engine local. try to find one from a local wrecker or at least one that you can drive to. that way you can see the condition the vehicle was in from which the engine was pulled, and talk to someone face to face. there are all sorts of young 16 year old yay-hoo's that are flipping their tacomas. A good engine will come along. good luck.

remember this is just my .02$

You can use a 4runner, T100, or early tundra too! 3.4 is a 3.4! But think you should give me all the mods :D
