Hey I have that same sheet when I ordered my plugs! The rectangular holes in the front wheel wells (4 in total) require plug number 90950-01987. I said somewhere before, I ordered the wrong plugs to begin with, and the parts guy was able to help me out by giving the right plugs to me for free! :D

It would be nice if they had an exploded frame view showing what plug went where, but I guess that was too easy :)

nickonfire...first off they did a great job on your frame but I noticed you said that your Toyota dealership said they just power wash the frame, when I went for an initial insp, I was told that they use a needle gun for corrosion removal.....wondering if I was fed a line or each dealer is choosing how they prep the frame

If you want, I have to go the dealer tomorrow to pick up some parts, and when I go, I can take a picture of where the plugs I am talking about go on the frame. (Mine are covered when I got my truck undercoated)

But for the rest of the plugs, that would be too easy if they did that. :(

When I went to get my inspection done, I talked to the mechanic that did almost all the frame coatings and frame replacements (1st gen Tacoma's, Tundra's, Sequoia's, and now 2nd gen Tacoma's), and he said that they just powerwash the frame. But I don't know if they use just water, or some chemical additive Toyota gives them with the frame coating kit.

But I don't know about a needle gun? Would they inject the rust with some chemical? :notsure: I would think that the process would be the same for all dealers (like how they do recalls and TSBs, with a set of instructions).

vram74, here is the picture of where the plugs I bought go into the frame inside the front wheel well:

Its just the reverse on the other side (picture is of driver side).

^^^Thanks :) It may be the way the pic is taken, but it appears as though the plugs are two different sizes.

Going to order these. I live in the South, but they do occasionally use salt here, and I do go up north a couple times a year to visit family.

Stupid problem to have, really  Even in southern states, they should at least perform a frame inspection, spray the wax on the inside of the frame and plug every hole afterward.

Don't worry, they are both the same size plugs. I think its just how the water was around the back plug that made it look bigger.

I agree, they should at least do an inspection in all states, not just in the cold climate ones.

I think someone else suggested that their dealer was going to use it to take off rust, but I have never seen or heard of one before. But it sounds like it could work well to get rid of rust.

Thats it, althought the ones we used in they navy resemble more of an air drill....the work like a champ and if you do have any weak areas they will go through...basically a vibrating sander

It does sound like it will take the rust right off, but it sounds like it would be too rough on the frame. I think it is a better idea to have the frames mediablasted.

its actually not as abusive as you might think, however if there is an area that appears to be OK but it's not it will go through. In the grand scheme of things I would rather discover a potential hazard than cover it up.

media blast is fine, I was always taught to remove corrosion by the mildest means necessary and follow the three forms of repair...remove and treat area, remove corrosion and fix area or replace if the first two are not feasible....I still cant believe toyota will not warranty their compound

I agree on what your saying, in both the first and second paragraphs. I would rather find a problem, not cover it up.

The only reason Toyota puts up a big stink about a warranty is they don't want another 1st Gen Tacoma frame problem (which lead to Tundra's and Sequoia's as well), which cost a ton of money. When I went to the auto show in February, we talked to an "engineer" from Toyota, and she said that the last frame recall cost Toyota into the billions (which in some ways, I can believe, but at the same time, not believe).

But if you have a frame problem, hopefully you can get it resolved .

here is the issue for me...

if I was Toyota I would have done some serious souls searching after what happened with the 1st Gen and did everything I could to not have a repeat performance with the 2nd Gen to avoid another "billion" dollar fiasco...especially with the frame....they focus on the lipstick and not the bones...if there is one thing that you should never skip on in a truck is the Frame..period... a little due diligence and some extra spent on the front side will save you in the long run.

I am still in contact with Toyota, being polite of course,

    thanks

Sir, I could not agree with you more! If Toyota would have just done the frames right from the start, with better quality steel, and dipping the frames in paint, we would not have a problem to begin with!

Good luck with your truck and dealing with Toyota.

    Update:
So I finally heard back from Toyota on a reimbursement, and there was no check :(. I have to give them a detailed diagnoses on what Auto Rust Technicians found (which they should definitely know, FRAME RUST!!!) But, I will be getting the paperwork from Auto Rust to send into Toyota tomorrow.

While I was there, I saw a 1st Gen extra cab Tacoma is getting the frame coated by them, so hopefully someone saw these thread, and wanted to try them out :).

I also tried out Fluid Film, and I would NOT put FF on any part of the frame that has been undercoated, as it will turn it soft (warns about it on the can). But I did spray the part of the frame under the hood, and inside the boxed section of the frame, the cross members, and inside the front body mounts. Fluid film smells bad, but looks like it will work well on the rust .

I should have taken a look at your frame to check out their work when I met up with you. AFAIK, my frame has only minor surface rust. I should do this before I gets worse.

I didn't even think about it when you bought the grill! If you ever want to see how the frame came out, let me know, and I will let you know when I am working (I work at the Lincoln Mall).

I still highly recommend getting your frame done by Auto Rust :). The coating is so much better than what Toyota is using on the Tacoma's with the LSC.
