It's the sharpest knife I've ever owned. Hand made by some guy making knives on the street in Helsinki Finland. Raindeer antler and curly birch handle and the sheeth is raindeer leather. Raindeer is the most popular natural resource. Nothing of it goes to waste and it tastes delicious!

The blade needs to be cleaned pretty bad and since it's handmade and not stainless I oil it regularly to keep it from rusting

My bad - I didn't realize they retail that high. It's a good knife. Not a $100 knife. Don't overlook the Spydercos. They seem almost cheap they're so light, but VG10 is a great steel and the FRN handles are extremely tough for the weight.

I know some folks like CRKT but I've never seen a CRKT that I just absolutely love - they seem clunky to me, and they cheap out on the steel a lot. They sell a lot of knives though. The same gripe keeps me away from Cold Steel knives. But I'm probably a bit of a knife snob. I got sick of having a drawer full of knives made from 420 stainless and AUS 6/8, so I sold them all off and now I have maybe 4 knives total that I like much better, have to sharpen less and am proud to whip out when an apple needs cutting.

I just ordered a CRKT Drifter I got the knife for 30$ and some change shipped and I'm really stoked :D. As long as the knife holds up to reasonable use I'll be really happy :) Most of the time I'll be using it is while camping so it's not going to be worked too hard. It's pretty basic compared to the knives you guys have but I gotta start somewhere right :p

I've carried quality knives for over 20 years now. My first was a titanium Benchmade and then I retired that one for a Kershaw Leek. I lost my Leek a few weeks ago and started looking for a replacement. I ended up buying another Leek, but in the meantime, I ordered a couple of cheap knifes from eBay to keep around as spares. This one was the first one to arrive and I'm really impressed with the quality. Razor sharp and assisted opening like my Kershaw.
Here it is beside my Leek for comparison. I paid $6.50 for it, so even if it doesn't hold up as well as my other knives, I'm not out a lot of money.

That's funny - the drifter has the same design and features as the Benchmade Vex (discontinued) - one of my very favorite beater knives. I retired the Vex because the steel wasn't super at retaining an edge and the pocket clip screws were just screwed into the G10 slab, so of course they stripped almost immediately. I'd say for a knife that you're not going to cry over losing, the Drifter doesn't look like a bad choice.

Carbon Steel being more preferred for knives? Haven't heard that in years. Depending on what their intended use, perhaps but with the new blade specific steels, like CPM154, S30V, and even some of the older ones like ATS 34 not to mention the European and Japanese contributions will flat out out perform most of the carbon steels hands down. Carbon being "better' isn't exactly the norm anymore, for some applications o-1, and the rest of the O series steels and the venerable 1095, D2 and the other tool type steels are fantastic, but not quite in the same realm as some of the newer super steels. Just sayin.

The main downside of carbon steel is corrosion. It's more difficult to maintain. That's all I can see.

In this world of give and take, or no free lunch you give up something for corrosion resistance. I agree tho , the lines are getting very close. Modern blade steels are getting pretty good.

But my best chef knives are high carbon.

154cm. My benchmade knives, most of them have this material. Very kickass.
