My husband is getting ready to purchase a 2010 4 door Taco. He wants the best stereo system he can get without going after-market. Looks like the JBL system with 6 speakers and a sub-woofer is the upgraded package. Couple of questions:

    1. How much room does the sub-woofer take up under the back seat?
(does anyone have pictures of how the sub fits back there?) He doesn't want to lose too much of that storage under the back seats. Is the JBL upgrade worth it? He doesn't want to "thump", just needs a decent sound.

    2. That package apparently also comes with back-up camera and bluetooth. Are those worth it?

    Comments?

I got the 2009 TRD Sport Double Cab with back up camera but it did not come with blue tooth or the JBL system...

Anyways, I think my stock system sounds good, as long as you don't want it to thump.. which i do :D

i have the 09 access cab with the jbl system but i am not to sure how the sub goes in the 4 door...but the sound is good the sub doesnt hit too hard but its good enough but with the stock deck it doesnt go to loud so i put in an aftermarket deck and it sounds great, but yes the jbl system is good.

I absolutely love my JBL sound system. It does, however, take up 2/3 of my lower rear seat storage space.

There's plenty of space to store stuff with the sub and amp.

If your husband likes quality sound and does crank it up, it's worth it. The sound system will not "Thump" like crazy. It's customizable for your needs like most stereos.

    Good luck and welcome!

I can tell you that the stock stereo is pretty lame. i would go with the jbl upgrade. Here is a picture of the access cab with sub. i assume the double cab has 2 seats, intead of rear bench. Anyone?[IMG]ure.

Full bench. And it doesn't look like that. It's hidden, kinda. There's plastic surrounding it.

here is a pic of a 2008 doublecab (4 door), it will go behind the right passenger seat with the amp and sub mounted together. There is a large plastic cover that goes over it and blocks its view when the seat is folded down. Obviously the cover was removed when this was taken.

When the seats are up you cannot see it like the access cabs, and you keep all of the space under the right rear passenger for storage. Also there is additional storage behind the left rear passenger seat.

Hope that helps a little. :)

edit: Welcome to Tacomaworld, good luck on your purchase

Can that JBL sub for the Access Cab be purchased from the dealer? Or are there other sellers for cheaper?

If your truck does not already have the JBL option it may be a better route to contact a local stereo shop and see what they can do for you if you are just looking to add a sub.

Yeah i guess, I've looked at all the boxes made for the Access Cab and in my opinion they don't look good at all. At least this one looks like it fits in. I really just want the shell, I would change the sub and add my own amp.

If u want just a decent sound it is ok but it also depends on wat type of music u always listen to. U'll be surprise that the rear spkrs are really not 6.5 BUT more of a 2.5" spkrs.

I suggest that if u want to have a really good sound. Invest a little in it. Just had all my spkrs change got a good deal from Fry's this wkend. they had the Polk Audio on sale for Buy 1 Take 1.

still using the stock HU soas not to spend much on adaptors for the BT and steering controls. added a 200.4 kicker amp to power the pkrs. left the subs stock. but will decide later on if i wanted to get rid of that plastic thing on the back since thers also a storage space underneath the seat.

Dealer would always sell and say thats it top premium quality but its really not. did some research on this.

I have the TRD 4-door with the JBL system... the sub takes pretty much the whole area behind the passenger side rear seat. It does sound fairly decent. Im sure it could sound better with after-market parts, but for a 'stock' system, it really doesn't sound bad.

Back-up cam is an absolutely must have for that truck. Parking is a pain especially when you have the long bed.. or if you do any towing.. you can see the hitch in the camera view. The bluetooth is also nice and works really well.

The back-up camera is standard on all TRD models and even some of the SR5s...

Just picked up a 2010 double/TRD/JBL last night. This morning I turned on the CD player and was a little disappointed with the sound. I am not into loud music at all but the over all quality is nothing exceptional, not solidly powerfull as I had expected. It was like the one-step upgraded 6-cd changer system (not the Rockford) in my previous Nissan Titan. The sub-woofer is always on, right? not like the extra cab's where you can turn on/off the sub.

The camera shows the image much farther than it's actually is. I have to get used to the distant before relying on it.

I just wanted the TRD Sport but no dealers have it so I was stuck with the TRD/JBL. Let's hope the bluetooth worth the extra $900.

I wish mine had the JBL just for the bluetooth and steering wheel controls for the phone. It comes with a mike in the rearview mirror.
Upgrading later could be done but would be pretty costly (I think someone here said that mirror is $900) and usually people go with aftermarket units to get bluetooth if they want it later on.

With the JBL system, you do need to balance it a little, and adjust bass/treble/loudness/speed sensitive settings to make it sound better. It does sound a little "flat" in my truck too.. I have built a competition-grade audio system in my '84 Firebird that sounds damn near flawless.. and the JBL is no comparison, but it does sound better than the factory system. Yes.. the Sub is on when the head unit is on..

I looked briefly at the setting and don't remember seeing "loudness". All I saw wat bass, mid, treb, balance and fader. I should read the manual...:)

    Thanks for the responses.
