Oahu Lift: Home install or pay a garage?

I have 5100/stock coils on the top notch(2.5") upfront.
Trd sports 3 leaf pack with a 1.5" aal an a 1" block in the rear. Rcd bilstein 5100 shocks.
Ride isnt bad at all. If u wanah take a ride lmk.

 

That's a good point. Aside from elevating it, ride quality does matter to me. Keeping the same feel or improving works, just not making it worse.

Sounds like everyone agrees to skip the diff drop,
And also in the Q&A section there's one answer that makes me nervous..... the few questions about needing new UCAs seems to get passed over in the answers.

Also going with the ToyTec 2inch AAL do I need to grab a top plate spacer to level it out, or do I take a bigger chance needing UCAs and possible having a lower rear overtime?

Liking the idea of doing this at home more and more. So close to buying now!

Pm likeaboss4x4. Tell them what u are looking for an they will hook u up with a pretty good deal. Wen i have the funds i will be going through them to get my maxtrac spindles an allpro leaf pack. I bought my bilsteins from them an am currently waiting for a u bolt flip kit with rear brakelines. Some of the best customer service ive recieved yet. An ive communicated with all the top recommended dealers.

 

Definitely check out headstrongoffroad too. I just ordered the maxtrac bundle without the leaf packs and shipping was $125 for two heavy boxes. Packages arrived in 3 days. The kit you're looking at should weigh a lot less so shipping might not be that bad.

IMO, stock suspension is the best ride quality you will achieve on the road. If you are adding springs (stiffer to achieve lift) or preloading shocks, you will feel the road more harshly than you would with stock suspension. Just something to consider b/c I don't want you to think you are going to get an improved on-road driving experience when you lift and it sounds like on-road driving experience is a priority for you.

 

does the bilsteinlift.com or the headstrong links a few posts up have any noticeable differences?

sorry, bilsteinlift replied saying to get the top plate spacer to fully level the truck at 3 inches in the front, and that "Most people are able to get their vehicle back into alignment without the UCA’s, but we do recommend them 2.5” or higher simply because they do add 2 degrees of adjustability for your alignment."

.. I really hate that "most" part, too much beating around the bush.

 

I got the 885 plus top spacer on the sport shocks with no aftermarket UCA. Sure it may limit the down travel, but I've taken my truck to peacock flats and kaena with no problems.

My only negative thing to say about bilsteins with setting preload is that the higher you go, you get less quality in ride...but theres some out there that have no complaints with it. Personally, I'd suggest the OME setup from toytec, it's good quality plus great price, plus you can always swap to different shocks later down the road for improvement.

looks like they come with the same stuff. the headstrong you can add the eibach coils or ome coils. price is the deciding factor

 

Thanks for all the input guys. I went ahead and contacted Boss4x4 (likeaboss4x4 here) and got the best deal + shipping. Hopefully in a couple weeks they will be delivered and I will take a day to install them. Went with

I thought you need OME shocks to run the OME trim packer?

 

it might fit with the 5100s...and it might work out ok...

I put a 10mm and 7mm in my OME shocks and it's held up for the last 6 months or so, although my ride is extra stiff.

 

I just copy/pasted the first quote we were working with, dumped the trim packers. For the sake of convenience, I am also going to buy my own jack + stands, simply because I hate going on post to do anything, so theres a new hunt for tools.

I got my 5100s for $377.

 

front and rear? im debating to go another route for the rear besides the billies, not sure what brand yet tho, or if anything compares price/performance wise
