Get an aftermarket tuner. Like the MAF Cal w/timing from URD. Or something else of your liking. Adjust the Closed Loop and Open Loop fueling maps. Adjust the timing a tad. You will get both, power and economy, much more efficiently than with an aftermarket intake.

Increase your tire pressure about 5 psi.

More efficiently yeah, but 99% cases vehicles with high HP & Torque have crappy MPG. Unless it has a turbo (like most diesels) or superchargers

Had a Subaru, with full tune and power I was getting 14mpg. Changed the turbo rpm spoil time and reduced power and got up to 22mpg

Extremely depends on your daily drive. My daily speed barely reaches 40mph, most of the time 30mph, so more power kills me

My dad's truck (1500 ram hemi 400hp) gets 9mpg where I live, he gets 15mpg where he lives. So for my town power kills mileage

Closed and open loops? I've never tuned for those haha how's that work? And do you have a tuner?

My honest advice/opinion is that the marginal difference between stock w/drop in and a full aftermarket intake is extremely negligible. I've had both.. A intake is like 250-300 bucks more and might give you 1-2 hp more than a drop in.. All things constant

I have a standalone. ProEFI Pro128. My truck isn't built for mileage efficiency.

    www.urdusa.com

    www.dezod.com

Capable tuners on both websites. Yours will have to be wire-in, since your year model doesn't have plugs available for the harness.

The OEM tune is very rich. A LOT of fuel is wasted because of this. Refine the tune, and just add a degree of timing here and there, and it will be much more fuel efficient.

Even with the plan of getting headers also? Cause I've heard the WAI, headers, and exhaust combo is a "cheap" nice thing to do

There is some serious butt dyno and bro-science going on in here... Thank god for Torspd who is the only one here making any real statements of fact.

OP, bottom line is that unless you plan on spending thousands of dollars tuning your engine after your intake and headers, you aren't going to see jack shit of a difference. Anyone who has actually ran the numbers on their vehicle before and after any kind of intake or filter change has netted only a decrease in mileage. These trucks aren't the same as your Subi was, just something you are going to have to get used to.

Not trying to sound rude, but clearly you hadn't looked at the links, at the time of your posting.

Far from $1k, at the lower starting price point.

Basically for ~$40 more, you could be adjusting your fueling and timing, than an intake.

Unless you intentionally didn't, so that I would post those links for you.....hmmmmm.....sneaky you. :spy:

For a better mpg, why not stay stock and just control rpm with right foot. Maybe a trhottle controller like APEXI with eco mode.

It was more me quickly googling tacoma chips haha was busy at work so I didn't have time to look. But yeah that's totally different

So you're saying one of these (depending on how much I wanna spend) is day and night for power and mileage?

Kinda all depends on your definitions of "day and night"...that gives the impression you're hoping for huge gains. All of the options will only provide minimal gains.

Yeah that probably wasn't the best descriptive word haha but be able to feel a difference and see a difference in mileage

The things required to pull bitches
K&n without the heat shield = hot air intake.

Due to the heat the engine will retard its timing with that and runnin 87 or lower it will increase your mpg because you will have a lack of power. And without power you'll gain mpg

Agree with all of it except the need for a K&N. Why not just pull the stock flexible coupling off the fender snorkus and let it suck air in from under the hood. Presto, free WAI.
