There is a missed step in that procedure, I think you do a 10 count in the middle and plug in belt. Worked fine on my 08 AC. I wear my seat belt religiously on road, but don't like the stupid chime for when I'm driving around at work or on my property
I remember the 10 count and plugging the belt in.
It never did disable my passenger alarm.
Funny thing is, my driver alarm is disabled. I suspect someone shorted the wires under the seat. My truck was used for commercial service before I bought it.

Not sure if it's the reason why, but I plugged both seatbelts in and it worked for both. No chime for driver or passenger.

Interesting. Show the tech the manual.
It does baffle me why the service manager said okay and he was then turned down.

My dealership disabled mine with their software. I highlighted in the manual where it said it could be customized. Told them it was a real distraction opening and closing gates as I went through my deer lease and while driving around on the property. No problems. Picked it up and it was disconnected.

If you are still under warrenty, leave the gas cap off long enough to make the check engine light come on. Take it to the dealer to have light cleared. The tech has to plug in their tech stream computer to clear the light. Ask the tech to turn off the seat belt chime since he is plugged in anyways. Make them turn the key minder chime to the lowest sound, too. You can't get rid of the key reminder chime totally, but you can make it so its not stupid loud. The trucks come from the factory with that chime set to the loudest volume.

Any dealer that claimed it is against the law is lieing or lazy. Its not a liability. The big issue is that it takes time for a tech to hook up to your vehicle. The dealer would rather have that tech busy fixing something

Presently, you can't use the Torque program to change these things.

X2. I'll never understand why some people can't stand to wear a seatbelt.

It's not always the fact that they don't wear their seatbelt. For quite a few, it is the constant in and out of the vehicle performing other tasks that makes the chime so annoying. It could even be that they actually want to extend the serviceable life of the seatbelt for when it is actually needed rather than using it "pointlessly" 30 times a day to drive 100 yards at a time while not on a DOT maintained roadway.:stirthepot:

My dealer ended up doing it, but the guy that checked my vehicle in was not sure they would. His suggestion if they didn't was to go to a pull a part and get the male part of the seat belt and just stick it in, no seatbelt with it. Thought that was a pretty good idea, since I run into the issue of my dog setting off the passenger side when he rides.

Are we able to turn off the passenger one only? My seatbelt is always on me but when I have stuff on passenger seat that chime is annoying.

I don't know why more people don't go to Amazon.com and buy a techstream clone and turn off the seatbelt chime themselves. If you have a laptop computer running Windows XP, the cable and software are about $30. Then you also have a very useful tool for when your check engine light pops on.

Yep. I got mine, too. Wonderful tool to have in your arsonal.

I've used mine extensively, I was surprised that this program worked the best using Vista...about the only thing good vista was good for.

There have been any threads on this and the reason for the refusal to customize these settings is one word.

LAWSUIT

That's it. No other reason.
Even if it says customizable, some slick lawyer will get a suit going and steal some money from someone.
Myself, I could care less. Toyota's beeps and pings are way beyond the parameters of the min required by law. The customize feature only brings them down to the min if necessary or off if not necessary.
They would never allow anyone the ability to shut off a required by law feature.

Some Dealers would rather not do it and piss someone off then have a million dollar suit against them cause someone did something stupid and trying to find a scape goat.

Don't take it personal that they refuse.
You can thank all the sue happy experts out there.
Just find another dealer that will or get the cable and do it yourself.

I don’t think it would be against the law. my ’07 dose not have it, it also just the chime is not going to make someone wear it.
if on the road yes. you should have it on. but when not on the road it can be very annoying. long drive ways, or if driving around property(say large property like 50acres+ it can be annoying having the chime on, and the seat belt is not really needed at those times.)

I have been on long drives long enough to do 10mph and still take 5min to get to the house from the road.

Mine was very hard to disable. Pulled the seat out and "forgot" to plug the seat belt wires back in:rolleyes: No chime, no dash light. :D But I have a 06 and I understand this can't be done on later versions:(

Many people use their truck off road at very slow speeds with nobody else around. Why do so many just say wear your belt every time this comes up? If you don't have help don't respond. I use my truck in many situations wear a seatbelt is a waste or even a danger. When I'm launching my boat into the ocean off the beach I may need to get in and our quickly for many reasons, and I don't need some bell ringing at me.

For those who plug in a latch to bypass, what if by some freak event the airbag then goes off because it thinks your wearing a belt?

Just an FYI I always wear my belt on roads and at speed as do all my passengers.

This X 100. The few times I've used it for various things (door lock chirp, seat belt chime, programming new keys) it has more than paid for itself in saved trips to the dealership. And it helped save the environment. Instead of throwing out my old XP laptop, it has now been recycled into my shop computer. One day I'll take the plunge and get ALLDATA.
