Good or Bad idea

I have a 2014 access cab and its hard to hear music when windows down and music doesnt get very loud. Would replacing my door speakers do any justice? and also what about this sub woofer? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HW6F9M...TF8&colid=16JXL4L42EYCM&coliid=I1U3Z68OLP69QZ

I could just set it behind my driver seat in the floor i guess since there isnt really any other room.

New head unit and speakers... but with the windows down at highway speeds, it's never going to sound like a concert hall.

The stock speakers suck. The stock head unit is detuned so it doesn't blow the stock speakers.
Replacing the speakers won't make a big difference... mine actually sounded worse when I installed my Polk component system until I put in a good HU.

 

do you think the sub is a good idea or bad idea. i would like alittle more base

Honestly it's personal preference, i'll eventually be getting a sub as all my bass is from the front speakers, however there are people that would hate having a sub.

In short, if you want it get it.

Ya... I'm getting plenty of sound and bass from my 6.5" Polks, but I do own a powered sub that I've been meaning to put under the passenger seat. It would allow me to get more solid "support" and free up the Polks to peak more in the midrange.

 

replacing your stock head unit will immediately give you more sound volume. my stock speakers sounded so much better after i installed head unit. since your truck is so new, that would hold you over till you got new speakers. if you install new speakers with your old head unit, i doubt you'll have any improvement, and will probably have less sound. head unit first, then speakers.

 

This. Aftermarket head unit with the stock speakers is mildly tolerable until you can get the money for decent speakers to pair with it.

It will also be easier to add a sub in the future if you like.

 

I have that sub sitting behind the drivers seat in my access cab and think it's the perfect amount of bass for what I listen to. Keep in mind you're gonna need an amp for the sub.

 

I'm actually wondering if this same sub, well it looks the same anyway but crutchfield changed the speaker in it but the build is the same, anyway if this enclosure would fit in the back of my rear passenger seat in my 2013 double cab? If it doesn't I will just have it on the seat or on the back floor.

 

Check these guys out, Super Crew Sounds. It is a bit more money after you add a sub but they are very well made and fit behind the seat of a double cab.

 

Do you work for this company or something? Do you have a build thread showing their work so we can see details? You keep saying to go here with nothing to show from them. Their stuff looks like every other ebay sub box I've seen.

No I don't work for them. I just jumped on here while I was searching for other info and saw a few threads that I could throw that suggestion out. I figured after a few threads where I mentioned them someone would try to make that connection. I have seen many sub boxes over the years and was just impressed with their quality for the price so I will recommend them anytime the opportunity comes up. Plenty of others have recommended them as well on this forum. Search a little and maybe they posted some pics since I didn't bother to take any.

No, I never bothered to put together a build thread since I haven't done much beyond a few mods and now the stereo stuff. If I ever do, I'll make sure to let you know.

Youre on the right track with upgrading speakers and adding a subwoofer. Personally an upgraded head unit will make ALOT of difference in stock speakers although your stock speakers will eventually blow given the higher output from the head unit.

Ive had a few setups in my 02 DBl cab but none sound like the one I currently have. Currently I have the following:
Alpine CDE-121 AV head unit
Rockford Fosgate P300-2 Amp
Kenwood Excelon 6x9 in all 4 doors
JL Audio W3V3-4 8" ported box - (I did have 2 Rockford Punch P1 10" behind both seats, this new setup provides ALOT better leg room and sound)
Total $: roundabout $800 or so over 6 years of upgrading lol (head unit, P-200 amp and 2 Punch P1s to start, the speakers and JL sub were just added within 6 months)

On your Subwoofer choice, personally there are better sounding options for less or more money that the Pioneer you have chosen, that is imo. For subwoofers I would personally recommend either Rockford or JL for the sound quality, there are others but these provide the best sound to me but to others they may not. I have attached a photo for the current position of my new JL 8" ported box, the location of it may change but for now its pretty sufficient

Really in truly, cruising at 60-75 mph down the interstate with your windows down is hurting your MPG but if you want the sound youll need to upgrade your head unit (test it out before you add speakers to notice the difference in stock vs aftermarket), add your subwoofer of choice here, then upgrade your speakers as your new head unit will push the stock speakers just fine until you decide on a new set (I waited about 3 years honestly on my speakers to upgrade)

Ill see if I can get a few more pictures of the other components to add to this. The one of the JL is the new sub and the other is the head unit

Or something between a 200-500 RMS for a single sub or jump up to a 1000 watt for 2 subs, depending on the amount of thump you prefer

I did a bunch of looking around and checking prices etc. of various audio stores and online supply to find the best deals I could on my equipment. The JL 8 with the box I got for $209 at a local retailer rather than the Amazon $259. Prices will vary alot depending on location and dealer, just keep that in mind when viewing different components

 

How are them kenwood speakers holding up? Did those require any modification to mount or is it plug n play? Been meaning to upgrade speakers since I've had my 03

 

Hey TashcomerTexas. The Kenwoods are great, theyre loud as crap and very clean. I usually run my audio on about 20 volume with the windows down and its perfectly clear. If the windows are up I dont go much more than 15. The only thing that was needed to get them to fit was just a little shaving of one corner on the speaker box in the door but it was almost miniscule on the amount. Im gonna try and use my S5 to record some in cab audio and Ill post them up in these threads as well as my build thread. The Kenwoods didnt break the bank either which was definitely a plus Id definitely recommend these to anyone. Do you have 6x9s all around?

 

Very nice and I'm not sure, I'd like to say they're the stock speakers the only thing audio wise upgraded in my truck is the hu. The stock ones are 6x8/5x7 right? I'd love to hear yours

 

I know that the 02 has 6x9s in all 4 corners. Im not sure if it varies between 02 and 03 but it might lol

I think the speakers in my truck are stock, but they sound really good until high volume with the windows down.
