FN Wheels Five Star TRD Center Cap Mod

FN Wheels actually made this very easy to do with the Five Star center caps...

    Tools needed:
    a file :D

Here's the FN Wheels center cap for the Five Star
    [IMG]

grab onto the outer ring tight and give it a yank...it'll pop off
    [IMG]

the TRD cap and the FN Wheels cap is VERY similar in design with a couple differences

the tab width is basically the same
    [IMG]

the inside diameter is just a hair larger, but the nub sticks out more...

as you can see here, the larger nubs prevent the TRD cap from sliding right in
    [IMG]

using a file, i widened the notches and took a bit off the wide area to allow the TRD cap to slide in
    [IMG]

    here is the clearanced notch
    [IMG]

key is not to go too far...gotta keep things tight...so with the clearanced notches, set in 2-3 of the tabs..

from there, you can press in a bit on the next tab down to get it started, then give it a hit with the soft part of your palm..that should set it in...move down to the next couple tabs and do the same thing...press in with your finger to get it moved in then give it a hit with the soft part of your palm...don't force it too much, you don't want to break it...if it doesn't go with some solid hits, take off a little bit more plastic...don't go too far as you still need a good lip for the tabs to grab onto
    [IMG]

then sit back and enjoy your new look

EBC time. I want to see how yours do before I make the switch. Heard nothing but good things about them so far. Why no cross-drilled?

    stage 3 had slotted & drilled...stage 4 is only slotted..stage 5 is both

    not sure why that is...

The Stage 4 Kit is for those who want less dust, long life and shorter stops. Includes the ever popular truck pads - EBC Greenstuff 7000 & USR rotors

I've had this setup, except with the slotted and dimpled rotors, for about 3 years now and it really makes a difference. I think you will be pretty happy! and they look really cool too. Haha

I've read a few different times that running slotted/drill rotors offroad is a bad idea because sand, dirt and/or rocks can get caught in the the slots in the rotors and will scratch up the rotors and pads pretty quickly. I take it this hasn't been an issue for you allmotorrex since you are still running them after 3 years.

no sir it sure hasn't. Im on my 2nd set of pads and drive about 18k miles a year and do a fair amount of offroading and they don't look abnormally worn at all. And I don't understand how it could cause a big problem. The slots and dimples are designed to dissipate heat so I would assume it helps with dissipating things like sand as well. Your pads don't come off your rotor enough to get anything worth any size stick in somewhere either. You could be right but I haven't personally experienced any problems

Not to be a dick but that's wrong. They were there to help with pad bed in and out gassing. Also for the surface area you gain you lose more in thermal mass so those will actually not perform as well (at the limit, but wheeling isn't exactly pushing that)

if you don't wanna be a dick then just don't be one. Haha as for telling me I'm wrong, I can live with that. but aren't the gases created from friction of the pad and rotor rubbing together?
