I have a 2002 Tacome Prerunner with 167k mikes on the original 2.7 liter engine. Cylinder #2 is not firing. A master mechanic told me he thinks its the computer. Anyone ever come across this problem? Anyone know where I can buy a computer?

Welcome to TW. First, don't listen to him. There are several things that could go wrong well BEFORE the computer.

We are going to need some more information first.

What have you or the master mechaninc done to the motor for trouble shooting?

    Have you replace the plugs?

Have you swapped out the coil pack with another one?

Have you done a compression test?

Have you change any plug wires?

Is there a CEL (Check Engine Light)?

The mechanic replaced spark plug, swapped coil, did the compression test, changed wires. CEL light comes on intemittently, but doesn't give a code to what the problem is. The mechanic figured try replacing the computer and see what happens.

I have yet to see a computer go bad. When he swapped the coil, did he just test it then swap it back? Or did he leave them swapped?

What are the code(s)? If number 2 is missing, you should have a P0302. There could be others.
