I looked at a lot of tires and decided to try the Cooper AT3's. Only had them put on Friday, but I really like the look and ride so far; but haven't used them off road yet, but I will soon.

All of the online user reviews of the AT3's are great. Consumer reports rated the AT3's the best in an AT group that included Hankooks, Bridgestone Revo II,mane BFG Rugged Terrains. Pep Boys just ended a buy 3, get 1 free sale, plus 10% on tires and install on Coppers. But Cooper just started an $80 off a set of 4 sale.

You say this based on your experience with your NEW, PRERUNNER, in San Diego that does not go offroad?

While I have not run the Coops, I have run the RF10s for the past 5 years, close to 60K on my E's, and they have been great in CO snow, rock crawling, Moab, wet roads and all. Highly recommended.

Had the hankooks and they wore great for the 13k I put on them but damn did they suck at traction. They would slip on wet grass. I won't buy them again

My cleats for rugby that are meant specifically for grass traction slipped all around. Did you try gravel roads?

Like I've said on other tire threads, I love my Hankooks. I have P-metric, and still get same MPG as before, great snow/wet traction to me, and quiet. I have not had the loud noise that others have complained about. Got about 20-25k on mine (don't remember exactly) and still have at least 30k left.

For what it's worth, in the new Consumer Reports issue (November 2014) Hankook Dynapro AT-M is now their top rated all-terrain SUV/truck tire and the Cooper A/T3 has fallen to 8th. Not sure how to explain the Cooper's drop; I don't think they've changed the design since the previous CR tests.

I haven't had the hankooks, but Im not a fan of the AT3s at all. They performed worse for me than either BFG AT KOs or Duratracs.

I have the Coopers 275 70 17C, great all around tires, great in water, mud, dirt, sand, hwy, towing, unplowed snow and handling. Good in snow but not a snow tire there are better but hard to beat for all other conditions. They work so good I rarely need 4wdr. Can cruise to the dunes at 85 and run the dunes with 25 psi, tow my trailer, great for my do it all truck...

After a lot of back & forth between the Hankooks ATM's & Cooper AT3's, I ended up going with the Cooper AT3's in P265/70/17. I got the Coopers for a REALLY GOOD price at Discount Tire & couldn't pass it up. We'll see how they do, as they are getting put on this Saturday.

Just looking for clarity here as I emailed hankook directly to find out what the tire weight of the P265/75R16 runs because I couldn't find it listed on their website and a tech replied stating that the tire runs 6 ply and weighs roughly 65 lbs. That can't be right can it? I don't think I've ever seen even a 10 ply LT heavier than mid 50s. I replied to his email asking what the LT version weighed hoping that he would realize he misquoted the weight. Shouldn't that size in a P rating be closer to between 40-45lbs?

Amazon has the shipping weight for the P in that size at 39.8lbs.

Tire rack used to have them listed - 38 lbs in P265/75R16 (same as the OEM 265/70R16 Rugged Trail).

Thanks for the quick reply guys. The Hankook Tech must have been thinking about something completely different, not sure why as my email was pretty specific. Have about 50K on my Falken Wild Peaks (LT265/70R17E) and am looking at making the switch to Hankook. Lost a lot of power and MPG when I switched out the stock Dunlops for the bigger and much heavier Wild Peaks. Didn't do enough research back when I bought them and just wanted something that looked aggressive. Going back to P rated tires and looks like these will be about 15 lbs lighter per tire and probably perform better than the Wild Peaks anyway.
