Got my tacoma via Costco program back in 2009 for a 2010 model. That year, fed stimulus has sales tax refund, then got an extra $500 new grad discount (Costco program allows combining with other discounts), and a gift certificate for use at dealer. I can't remember how much, but I used it to buy a case of oil filter.
I don't think it was a significant amount less than msrp, but in NorCal Bay Area, it's pretty much going to be msrp take it or leave it since they sell fast, even during recession.

That is odd, I think your dealer wasnt treating you right. When I used the Costco program in 2013, I got the Costco price online and walked into the dealer and they gave me the exact same price. If I recall, it was 400-500 over dealer cost which was about 2or 3k under MSRP. I could dig out my window sticker somewhere, but that is close enough. I have read that it changes by brand, but the Toyota deal is that standard 4-5 over dealer cost. When I compared my price online, there was no one that got one for $2k less.

I just did 2014 4x4 TRD Off Road Super White. Didnt add options like entune. $29,711. I'm guessing you have more options selected than mine.

Called usaa today to ask about the $248 price they gave me for the Leer campershell and a few other items that were not listed on the valuation report. The analyst explained why they don't manage the amounts that are given, however he was willing to go over every option on the truck to make sure I got the best value. He asked about the exhaust navigation radio and a few other things and really did the numbers----- $34,892.50!!! Usaa will keep my business for a while!

costco price plus taxes and whatnot, you are about even with what you are going to get from insurance. nice indeed.

with the costco discount, you are going to get a lot of upsell from the dealer. you can always say no, unless its really a good upsell deal.

If upsell deals were ever good deals, they wouldn't wait until the very end to try and tack more on with the "it's only $15/month extra for everything, don't you want the peace of mind that scotchguard+warranty+glass coating+gap insurance+++++ will give you on your new investment".

Their money, though, and finance managers have to put food on their family, too, lol...

The only upsell I got, having used the Costco program 3 times in the last two years, is the extended warranty. And you get the Costco price on that. When I bought my Tacoma, I knew there was one local dealer I did not want to deal with. I called the auto buying program folks, told them that, and they referred me to the dealer I wanted. The price varies from dealership to dealership. The reason for that is that Costco negotiates the price with each dealer. I got my Tacoma for $300 under factory invoice. On my wife's Lexus, it cost me $500 over factory invoice, which on a luxury car was still a good deal.

Make sure you understand all the California DMV restrictions for bringing a vehicle into the state before you buy it in Texas. One requirement is that if it has less than 7500 miles on it "when you purchase it" it must originally have been manufactured to California emission specs otherwise they won't allow you to register it.
