Try using hot water. The corrosive primers in those spam cans are usually sodium or potassium based. Pour some almost-boiling water down the barrel, then do a normal cleaning on it. The hot water dissolves the salts and loosens everything else up, so it takes a lot less time and a lot less rem oil and rags.
