    Go for it.

We have a 05 F-250 that with some mods is extremely reliable.

Make sure you get a bigger exhaust (Turbo-back) so the EGT's drop faster, make sure you do a EGR delete (this will turn it into a off-road only truck), and if you are in the boost let the truck idle for 2-3 minutes before you shut it off.

If you aren't using it for work, hauling or towing it's pretty silly to buy. I wanted one for the longest time too but the truth is it's an absurd vehicle if you aren't using it properly.

Is there a reason you want a 3/4 ton turbo diesel other than for a brodozer?

I would try to find a low mileage 7.3. I just sold a single cab 01, and bought a 4door 01. Both are great trucks.

I would try to find a 7.3. I'm far from an expert on Ford diesels but I have heard the 6.0 is just a nightmare to deal with while the 7.3 is bullet proof.

Nope. Pretty much the only reason. And capacity and comfort (interior room wise) for road trips. My Tacoma wears me out on long trips.

+1. Makes no practical sense to get a 3/4 diesel if you're not going to use it. F-150 is quite a bit larger than a Tacoma as it is. I've got a lot of seat time in both (owned a '00 gasser 250), and a 150 has more room than a 250 anyway.

I think I'd rather get a Tundra to be honest. I've just always wanted a loud, diesel, f250. Just one of them things. Kinda like guys on here that drool over the Hilux cause it's a diesel

My buddy had a 2011 that I did a headlight retrofit on so I kept it for a few days. When I drove it back to him it made me realize how much smoother my truck rides. That damn truck beat me the hell up! Plus it felt like I was driving a school bus. Both he and my truck are lifted.

I have 3 6.0's. An F-250, F-450, and a F-550. ALL of them are sub 65K miles and ALL of them have had major work done with major $$$ associated. A few turbo's a piece, as well as EGR valves and coolers and a number of injectors. As a small business owner, these things KILL me. Just Bullit Proof'd one of them to the tune of $5K and now things are ok... for now... Ford screwed the pooch with these trucks. The trucks themselves are good trucks, but that engine is a bear. That is my opinion with the experience I have had, good luck with your choice. I will say that I have had an '01 GMC 2500HD for a long time zero issues. Again, that's my opinion, take it for what you want :bananadance:

One more thing, if you do go the Powerjoke route, make sure you have a good diesel mechanic lined up that is NOT associated with Ford. Ford is still under the "illusion" that there is nothing wrong with the engines... So I would suggest working with someone who knows the issues, and won't BS you.

Lol. Maybe I need to rent one for a week. I've driven them plenty, but maybe a rental will get rid of the bug for me....

The grass isn't greener on the other side.

Unless you need the towing performance of a diesel, stick with a gas-fueled truck.

Our business owned a 07 F-250 that required many expensive repairs. Unless you want to pay to have it modified, enjoy paying repair bills, or absolutely need diesel pulling power, stick with the truck you currently own.

We currently own a 2008 F-450 that has also required some expensive repairs (thank you extended warranty).

Did oil start dumping in the exhaust? if the oil is getting past the seal I know th issue and you can fix it for free.

Most times it's not an issue unless you mod the truck and then try to tow a lot with power mods.
