Hello everyone and thanks for stopping buy to give helpful info for deserved thrashing. So here's my questions, basically I have a 4.0l 4x4 with 3" lift on 33" km2's. This December I am purchasing a four wheel camper which I will use 5 or so times a year for varying lengths of time. What gears ratio do I need to help torque while driving in sand. Also I would like to know best brands of gears to go with front and rear. Second while the diffs are open I'm considering lockers front and rear. I would like to know brands air vs electronic and anyone knows a good place to get work done and really what price I'm looking at for all this parts and labor. I searched and didn't find anything in here sorry for the long winded initial thread.

ARB is the best bet for lockers, however they are costly and do require a onboard air system.

As far a gear Brands Yukon is the one I hear the most about, but there are others.
    http://www.gearsandlockers.com/diff-wizard/
And these are the Go to Guys for regearing. http://eastcoastgearsupply.com

As far as the ratios I'm not 100% sure, it seems like 4:88 or 5:29 would be the way to go.

For 33's I believe that 4.10 gears are mathematically as close to stock as you'll get - they need to be procured from a 4 banger though as they are not manufactured aftermarket in that ratio.
    4.56 would be overgeared IMO.
How heavy a trailer are we talking about here?

Dang, Craig is Correct, I read that you had 35's instead of 33's.

It's a in bed truck camper and wet with all gear will be max 2000lbs. That's on the way heavy side prob more like 1500 lbs. this will be in my truck for possibly 5 weeks out of the year. May be a dumb question but does the east coast gear have a west coast shop?

    I honestly don't know.

But sounds to me like 4.10 is the way to go for your application - unless you want to go with bigger tires later on?

I my tires are great no need to go bigger. Curious not much info on arb's website but are the air lockers that are 1200 bucks do these come with gears??

Negative, that's just the lockers. Probably need to buy a separate air compressor as well.

Understood just lockers. Any other good companies that sell air lockers? I will prob only use these things a handful of times a year since I'm not a hardcore wheeler. I get where I need to go camping and that's it. I'm open to any other alternative that would save me cash but still render good quality

That camper is going to prove to be a serious overload that gears or lockers cannot compensate for. I'd suggest looking at your trucks payload capacity, and remember, those figures include passengers.

Yes I understand that the gears and lockers will not fix the problem of the weight of a camper. The gears are to help compensate for loss of torque from bigger tires. There are plenty of people running four wheel campers with tacos without a problem. Really I want to know the best gear ratio to meet in the middle still being able to travel freeway speeds. Also other options for companies for lockers and gears. For all you SoCal people any good shops to do the work? I'm in San Diego btw

Yes, owners name is Eric, he knows his stuff when it comes to gears and just about anything with our trucks. He has added a locker, compressor, re-geared twice and a host of other things to my truck and his prices are reasonable. The re-gear was do to tire size increase. I think a couple of guys on the forum have used him with very good results.

Regear, locker and compressor $1200.00. I purchased the ARB locker and compressor from a auto parts store running a sale, Eric had the gears on hand so for him to do the install run wires switches regear, looks very clean and done very well.

I had went from the 3.73 to 4.10 and then to 4.88, yes that included the regear, Eric is known for his work on gears and regearing he did mine in one day but that was only one locker I think it takes him two days for two lockers.
