    Hey all, I have been doing a lot of lurking and researching around here and other truck/eco forums and have nearly chosen a tire to put on my truck.

    I was about to get the Michelin LTX MS/2 (Lowest Rolling Resistance I can find) but I have recently come across other tires that are lighter and also LRR.

    The main issue is: Less rolling resistance and more weight vs slightly more rolling resistance but less weight? It seems to me that rolling resistance affects highway MPG while tire weight affects stop and go MPG. I can get about 28 MPG on the highway (and counting as my driving improves) but when I mix it with city I struggle to hit 24 MPG so I would rather save on stop and go.

    The Michelin LTX MS/2 only offers the LRR feature in its E rated tires. The lightest E rated tires are 43 lbs while the non e-rated tires (What I need) are 40 lbs and are not the LRR option. I don't tow very much so I think E rated tires, even if low weight would be a little overkill.

    Aside from which option of the MS/2 to choose, I have also seen on tireracks site that other tires are rated 9 or 10 in fuel efficiency, where the MS/2 is only an 8. The MS/2 has a 70,000 mile warranty and great reviews. The other tires are some brand I have never heard of but are lighter and show better MPG on tire racks site. they also have 70,000 mile warranty but I have heard bad reviews on them. The other tire is the Continental Crosscontact eco plus.

    Subscribed. I'd also be interested in hearing opinions on noise, and wet/snow traction. I know it's asking a lot of a tire to be LRR *and* good in snow, but finding the right balance between the two would be nice.

    Wow, a response!
    Almost every review on the LS2s praised its snow performance IIRC.

    Change of plans though: I may be getting BridgeStone Duelers because I have a family member who gets a nice discount on them. Problem: There are so many duelers and not many "VS" reviews.

    I buy Michelin tires for all my vehicles. Best tires money can buy IMO. I have had some experience with Toyota factory Bridgestone Duelers and they were awful tires.

    I have heard good and bad things.... It would be kind of a slap in the face to my stepdad to not buy Firestone/Bridgestone tires since he gets them pretty much at cost. Plus my parents are buying them as a gift so it's even more of a big deal to neglect his discount. Need to find a Bridgestone truck tire with GOOD reviews.

    I looked all over Tire rack & Bridgestones web site and the best that I can conclude is that they are not considered low rolling resistance.

    Ditto that. On the other hand I have had several exceptional sets of non-OEM Bridgestone tires on cars, and would not hesitate to buy Bridgestones for the Tacoma if they had the features I wanted.

    My guess is your main fuel savings will come from a lighter tires. Honestly at the end of the day your not going to see an extreme savings. 4 lbs different between the two tires probably equates to tenths on the mpg.

    My whole family basically runs the M/S 2 on our vehicles and I'd run them on my Tacoma if I didn't want something a little more aggressive. We have them on our Tahoe and our Chevy Pickup and can't sing their praises enough. I can't speak for the Tahoe but in the 1997 Chevy with a 4.3l we get around 17-20mpg

    Thought I would pop in to post my results. Going from 265/50R20 tires (40lbs tire + 40 lbs wheel) to the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza+ 265/75R16 (40lbs tire + 30 lbs wheel) I gained 2 MPG highway. City immeasurable at least for me.

    I would have bought the Michellin MS/2s if I didn't have 30% off Bridgestone.
