    $0 :anonymous:

It was passed down to me by my grandfather, who acquired it from a friend of his when he was in the Guard, some time around Vietnam

None of the other grandkids are interested in firearms or serving, so I was chosen to maintain the rifle until I pass it to my kids :D

Awesome gun, Cody, and an amazing history to it! Love the detailed photos. My friend's dad brought one to the range, and it was a trip to fire it. He had bought his, though, so not as special. lol

asked my dad about it, he seems to recall that he got it from the guard right before he retired, but I think I remember my grandfather saying he traded his friend for it.

if he really got it surplus from the guard, that confirms that the rifle at least served in Korea, if not also WWII

Ill make sure to ask next time though. he was a MSG with the 101st in Vietnam but doesnt talk about it much

theyre a helluva lot of fun to shoot, accurate as shit too. This one's 70 years old and still runs like a champ

interesting though, instead of a nice rubber buttplate these have solid steel plates screwed to the ends

so you can use them to bash peoples faces in. leaves bruises after a lot of rounds though

I was trying to get one for free from the CMP...

    Question about straw purchases

Obviously, person A purchasing a gun for person B is considered a straw purchase and is illegal, but let's say both A and B go into the store together. Person B wants a gun, but doesn't have the money. Person A says that he will pay for the gun. Person B is the actual receiver and will be the owner. Person A is just paying. Person B fills out all the paperwork etc etc, get's approved and when they go to the register and Person A tries to pay, the store says no because it's illegal. Is this true? Is it a new ATF ruling?

When I got my Glock, my dad actually bought if for me as a late wedding gift. I went into the store, filled out the paperwork, had the background check done, showed them my license and military id (for mil discount) and it all checked out and then my dad paid with his credit card. No questions asked and no problems. Just had to do the 3 day waiting period for first time hand gun purchase.

    gotcha

see that's basically what happened to a buddy today...his folks wanted to buy him a gun for his birthday, so they went to the store and he filled out the paperwork etc and then they get to the register and when his mom went to pay, they said no not allowed by law. so he had to pay for it and then they paid him back afterwards

I was always under the impression that as long as the actual receiver or transferee of the firearm did the paperwork, didn't matter who paid for it

That's crap. All the paperwork was done under his name to include the registration. Maybe they felt like being dicks or maybe I had no problems due to being military? I'm not sure. I just figured if all the paperwork is done by the owner of the gun then who buys it wouldn't matter. Sure, your friends mom could by the gun and gift it to him but wouldn't there have to be more paperwork drawn up and filled out for transferring ownership along with spending more money for transfer fees?

Ah, I get it now. So there was a change. So, the only exception would be if I bought a gun for my wife. I can understand the problem with your name not being on the reciept, but what if they run the serial number and see that it's registered to you?

Oh yeah, I would too. I don't blame shops for doing so. Especially with gun sales being such a hot topic right now. They may find some loopholes or find a way to be more leniant down the road. Guess we'll see...

Shop I work at always let the person who was actually receiving the gun fill out paper work, and as long as we got the money we were happy, I don't know how it's gonna be with the new ruling though. It's a big fuster cluck as usual

Personally if I was gonna buy a gun for someone as a gift I'll either buy it and then give it to them or if they are picking it out the. I'll just give hem the cash before hand after I know how much it will cost

From what I understand about the new ruling though is that it will change nothing in terms of gifts

This is a screen cap of the federal form 4473 or at Least a section of it dealing with actual tranferee/purchaser these are examples on the form
