I am new to the lifting world so i don't know a lot about lifts. But i was looking at some OME 3' lifts on here and I'm curious on whether or not the pics don't do them justice? To me it looks like a 3' lift isn't enough. Do the trucks look bigger than the pics show? Also what lifts would ppl recommend in which i can do a bigger lift and not spend a ton of money? I would like to keep it under $1200 but the cheaper the better!!!

You would be surprised at a 3" lifted Taco next to one in stock form.

3 inch looks pretty big. But once you see a 6 inch it doesn't look as big. I have a 6 inch, and even when I see one with a 3 inch driving around. It still looks pretty big.

But for 1200, a 3 inch lift would fit that budget

What "lift" is on the stock PreRunner/TRD:OR/Sport?

Is that the "OME lift" you're describing, or is that something different?

You're thinking OEM (original equipment manufacturer)

OME is Old Man Emu and is a aftermarket lift kit.

ok, could someone come up with a set up that would get me around a 4" lift? its so confusing seeing all these guys set ups saying all these different size lifts/spindles/blocks/coil.

4" would be a RCD lift and you're not going to get it for $1200. Are you a pre runner or 4x4? What are you going to use the truck for? off roading, hauling loads?

Not sure about 4" that is a rare choice. I'm far from the most experienced with lifts but I have done a lot of research on it. What are your goals first of all? Ride quality? How often do you offroad? These answers will determine your lift

70%-80% of my time im driving in the city (which is a smallish city). With the occasional trip to california and portland. But i do camp/explore almost every other weekend. Not hardcore mudding or anything but just climbing hills/trails. So i would like to save on gas a little but still have that aggressive look that wont let me bottom out on bumps.

Personally I have a Old Man Emu lift and like it. Shipped it was $1350ish with TW discount. I had them assemble the coils for me so I didn't have to mess with it once it got here and was basically a take off and replace install. I wanted off road ability but I also needed carrying capacity. OME fit the bill. Ride is stiff at first but breaks in nicely to a firm ride.

There is the Bilstein 5100's that are a little cheaper and a lot of people like. I haven't seen or rode in a taco with them so can't really give a good opinion on them.

The 4" is basically a drop bracket lift just like the 6" lifts. I believe the RCD one goes for around $1800-$2000. You will have about the same clearance on a 6" lift with the drop bracket as you do with a 3" but would be able to run bigger tires.

OK, if you off road some and don't want to bottom out on hard bumps, the OME (Old Man Emu) is your best bang-for-buck choice.

Yes, it's a three inch lift. That's all you can get out of the stock suspension without going to a complex and expensive (not to mention expensive to install) drop bracket lift kit.

It'll sit higher once you add oversized tires and wheels.

    ^ Good info right there!

I would tell you to try and find a used OME lift (Maybe just fronts?) or buy a used or new 5100 lift kit. When I say used I mean not more than 10 or 15K miles. If you plan on having this lift for a long time (I assume you do) I would save up for a full OME. Many people have tried to save money by getting cheaper lifts and usually always replace it with a more expensive one.

I vote you wait a bit and when your budget increases, get a full OME.

I'll add mine was the full OME lift with the Dakar springs in the rear not an add a leaf which is about $500 cheaper. But you are still stuck with the crappy stock rear springs.

    Front shocks: 90000
Front coil options: 886 heavy coils
Front top plate spacers: no top plate spacer
Assemble front shocks/coils with new bushings: yes
Front diff drop kit: yes (for 4x4 models)
Rear lift:2" lift add a leafs
Add rear shock stone guards: no

This is what i did at toyotec.com, would it be worth it to add the dakar OME or can i get away without it? like i said less money the better.

I dont have a bumper/winch but do plan on having one within 6 months. Would it be ok to get the 90000 and 886 heavy coils even though i wont have the bumper for awhile?

    What??

I have heard that 885s are for 150lbs of front weight and 886s are for anything heavier. They will be stiff and rough until you get front weight. No knowledge on Dakars

You don't need the front diff drop for a second gen, it doesn't do anything. The 886's are going to be rough and could cause the front end to bounce on bumps without the extra weight of the bumper and winch. I know it sucks when you're that close to getting it too. Maybe get it and wait to install till you're closer to getting the bumper and winch?

The Dakars will depend if you will haul a good bit and don't want the truck to squat in the rear. When I saw how little weight squatted my truck it was a no brainer for me. But, if you don't haul much or pull a trailer then you might be able to get the aal.
