If it's old enough, the same model may not be available. I have an old one from the 70s that I doubt anyone makes anymore.

See if you can pay the difference and upgrade to a model that fits the existing hole in the wall. That way at least you are getting more cooling for your money instead of someone stuffing some insulation and charging an arm and a leg for it.

Sounds like a good idea. If you're going to pay extra anyway, you might as well get more for your money. Get a quote from the installer and present it to the insurance company and see if they'll pay you cash instead. Then add the cash you were going to spend on insulation anyway to get a bigger unit.

Question and looking for insight. I have an attached sunroom on my house that was an addition. It is not insulated and the only access is through the old exterior door in the kitchen. The plan is to widen the doorway to a double french door and redo the entire room and make it part of the house (will be the dining room).

The sunroom does not have a full foundation and sits over a crawl space. I am most concerned with the heat loss through the floor and need to insulate big time down there. Does standard insulation work for this area, or should I be looking at some special "outdoor" type insulation for the flooring? I would crawl underneath and place the insulation down there.

The ceiling is going to come down and I will insulate and place drywall to vault it (leaving the joists exposed after dressing them up). Hopefully I wont be in for too much of a surprise after taking the existing wood paneling down in there. You can see the old exterior clapboard behind the wall shown in the picture - they just covered over it previously.

Regular batt insulation will work , a good practice is to staple up some housewrap on the underside of the joists after installing the batts to help keep cold wind from getting to the batts ( assuming you are talking about a vented crawl )

The Cliff Hanging Hot Tub With a View Project

I built this whole project by myself except for the stone work done by my mason

The only way to get the concrete to this location was to use a 100' boom pump from a lower road and we had to use a crane to get the tub up there and in place

All materials had to be carried in from about 150' away

Nice install with a great view. The only down side is that I hope the owner never has to get to the plumbing in the enclosed sides. I am sure the controls and the pumps are located on the exposed side of the tub.

I did this under my 4 season porch last fall. BIL suggested covering it with 1/4" OSB to keep critters from setting up shop.

There is no storage rack for the cover , it's a 3 section fold with one piece that removes ( ie 1/3 removes and the other 2/3 fold on itself ) I have an idea for a rack setup down on the service end

    Oh yeah

I'm also going to add some 1" wide ratcheting web straps over the top for when the client is going to be away for extended periods , it can get crazy windy there

Better make sure you check with your building dept first. A lot of municipalities will not let you convert a sunroom to permanent living space. Hate to see you spend all that money getting it converted only to discover it's unpermitted square footage that can't be counted in a sale and/or you may be required to tear down.

Good call - checked all the local zoning requirements and building codes for my town. Nothing came up. Still debating whether or not I want to pull a permit for this since everything will be all interior work (nothing visible from street). The S.F. of the house already accounts for this space since is does have heat, 4 walls and a roof.

Will be sure to take pictures as I undertake the journey. This long weekend consists of removing an old handicap ramp from the back deck and building standard steps.

We had a dead pine tree, 2.5 ft diameter, 50 ft tall, about 8 feet from our house. It was only 3ft from our deck, and about 20-30 feet from the neighbors house. Barn was falling off, and the trunk was cracking. Time to take it down, but it needed to come down in sections to avoid hitting anything. Luckily the guy that mows a ton of lawns in town was at our neighbors last weekend and contacted a tree company for us. That guy showed up last Tuesday, and only charged us $150 to take down 2 trees. The one by the house, and another one in the back yard that was more dead than alive ($100 for by the house, $50 for the back yard one since that came down whole).

We're happy since that's 2 trees down for half the cost of the previous estimate for just the one by the house. We just wanted them dropped, we can clean up without paying someone else. So with that I had a fellow TW member bring his saws down when he came to get the muffler I picked up for him, and another friend came up from PA to help out. We got both trees knocked out on Sunday along with replacing the muffler on the other Tacoma, with time for beer and wings!

And this little tractor of mine has made clean up SOOO much easier! Plus it rolled a couple of the logs and pushed down on one to finish the cuts!
