Just sold a toy hauler that had a dual mode water heater and a generator. With the generator running or plugged in you could turn both heaters on and heat the water in just a few minutes from cold. It also help if you're doing four showers in a row. No waiting, constant hot water.

Here is my 2014 Jayco Jay Flight Swift SLX 184 BH. We have only used it a few times this year due to my son's weekend baseball, but now that his season is over we plan to use it twice a month. The Tacoma pulls it great but you definitely know it's back there, especially in the hills and mountains. It weighs approx 2,800 dry and I've averaged 14.5 mpg pulling it so far.

So we took our Jayco 198 RD out this weekend and I have a problem. I'll be taking it back to the dealership ASAP unless someone can give me a good solution to my problem. We lost 110 volt power to the fridge, several outlets (not all of them) and the GFCI outlet. No breakers are tripped and no fuses have blown. I remember the sales guy saying that the bathroom GFCI outlet was tied into a lot of things, and when I check the outlet in the washroom the reset is out on the outlet and the test is burried. It won't go back in no matter how much I press and the test button refuses to pop back out.

I hope it's a quick fix, we want to head back out in 2 weeks :(.

Interesting! We were told not to turn on both heat sources since it could melt the thermostat and ruin the heater, which would not be covered under warranty. Maybe if I get brave I'll try this on a cold morning when I'm in a rush to go outside and need a quick shower.

Pulled this 15km/9miles (ish) yesterday. 18ft car hauler rated for 10,000lbs, with a full 500imp gal water tank. All weighed in at over 7000lbs total.

2013 DCSB 6spd manual with factory tow package... no lift, no air bags, no nothing. Just a P3 brake controller set at 9.5

Tank is centered as humanly possible, even did some math/physics to figure exact placement. Thanks to the measurements/math I had no rear end sag at all with full load on. Impressive or what?

The result = towed like a dream! Revs were obviously a bit higher than normal (less than 500 higher actually), so not too bad at all. That 15km even involved a decent uphill grade for probably 1 km, and even then the tach was only 500 higher than normal!

Stopping was not an issue whatsoever thanks to the P3, could not even tell I had over 7000lbs behind me, seriously. Out of curiosity I turned the P3 down to 5.0 and attempted a stop as if I had nothing in tow... And well, you could notice BIG TIME BIG TIME BIG TIME that there was 7k pushing you, cannot stress that enough. In an emergency situation without a brake controller, with that kind of weight WILL result in a very very bad day.

Starting from a stop you could feel it, truck didn't struggle though either. I thought going from a standstill would be sluggish and tough to get going, but I was very wrong. That being said, you could tell you were towing something heavy.

    Summary:
Do I recommend long hauls? F**K NO.
Quick haul from A to B with not much twisties, ups and downs, stopping and going? Hell yeah, just take your time like me and you're fine!

My only regret is not having a scangauge or ultragauge to see my gas mileage with that beast behind me.

But, I honestly only notice it's there when I'm making an "oh-shit-that-was-a-really-short-yellow-light" kind of stop.

Yeah I towed a full uhaul 6x12 for my brother about 600 miles. The truck did fine towing, but there was a holy shit moment when a car clipped and 18 wheeler a few hundred feet ahead of us and I had to brake without trailer brakes on ~3500 lbs of load. I no longer wonder why uhaul never installs trailer brakes yet won't let people tow with certain vehicles lol.

Yup. Just like FawkQ's story; the Tacoma's are powerful enough for you to forget just how heavy what you're towing is, but their brakes are wimpy enough that you get reminded real quick when you have to make a panic stop w/o trailer brakes.
True of any tow vehicle, though. My cousin's Cummins is the same way. You can haul a 10,000lb load with that thing and not know it's there unless you under-dialed the trailer brake.

Most uhaul trailers have surge brakes. That's not to say they're adjusted properly, but they do have brakes.

The one I had did have a hydraulic emergency brake. But when I checked it out the brake was mechanically operated by the emergency chains, and had no other way of being deployed

Went to Country Jam in Grand Junction, CO last weekend. Loaded up (except for water and food which I got close to the venue) I was surprised that I got 10.9mpg climbing up through the Eisenhower Tunnel (11,158 feet) and Vail Pass (10,662 feet). Probably got more like 5mpg on the climb and closer to 15mpg on the decent. Truck definitely didn't like going up the passes (45 mph was about max without the engine sounding like it was going to blow) but did well other than that.

On my way to Moab about a month ago I got 11.75 going up and over Eisenhower and getting gas in Gypsum. It was the best I got there and back.

I have a supercharger and my weight was about 4000lbs. loaded. Had no problems keeping the speed limit up any of the passes there and back. Including climbing back up to Eisenhower from Dillon.

Ah bummer! Sounds like a faulty GFCI outlet in the bathroom if it wont reset. If its still under warranty I'm sure they will get it sorted out asap!

On a brighter note I took mine out last weekend on some pretty rough forestry roads with no issues :)

When I first picked mine up it went back to the dealership for 2 minor issues in the first season .One being no 12v power, ended up being 2 exposed copper wires in the control panel touching. The other was the heater wouldn't turn on. Has since been great though.

Yeah that's my hope. Like I said earlier our unit is a year old one with a little hail damage from last year, so we were already waiting for a replacement A/C and shower molding because those things were not working at delivery. I guess now they have one more thing to fix!

I know our dealer sells a butt load of trailers, something like 2 for every 1 someone else sells around here, but I'm still hoping they can get this done quickly.
