'07 to current (possibly '06) should all be compatible. Alloy is compatible with alloy, steel is compatible with steel.
My biggest concern about buying used from a vehicle older than an '11 or so is that lithium batteries are only designed to have a 5-year life.
Some do better, and some applications (like my Lojack transponder) go through them in 6 months.
I have an '08, and the next time I change my tires I will replace the transponders if I have the budget for them.

I don't remember seeing a different between the sensors that came in my sport wheels, and the one in the spare :notsure:

One gets a 45 degree angle and one gets a 90 degree angle.
The steel sensors can be used in alloy wheels if they are rotated 180, but you have to remember to inform any future tire installers that this has been done or they will break the sensor when they dismount the old tires.

Didn't Toyota stop putting a sensor in the spare after 2007?

My '08 has one. It was either '09 or '10 they stopped.

My 08 has/had one. I've had them removed from the tires. All 5 look identical.

Am I reading this right? Does the Tacoma allow for 10 sensor IDs? I am asking because I am looking at getting a set of off-road tires to put on when I am going out but keeping the highway tires for normal use.

All this TPMS stuff is new to me, I've read the whole thread.
I have a 2010 base with steel wheels and I'm wanting to replace them with
Enkei GT7 alloy wheels. I asked about flipping the sensors 180 like was mentioned in this thread but was told it wouldn't work?
I hate to toss out the $ for new sensors.

The sensor for steel wheels and aluminum wheels are different due to the shape of the wheels and not interchangeable.

The same shit everyone else has.
    Awesome thread.

Im picking up a set of TRD Sport wheels to replaced my TRD Off Road wheels.

The new Sport wheels have TPMS sensor with them already and I would like to used them instead of transferring my current ones over from the Off Road wheels.

I really like the mini VCI tool idea to reprogram the TPMS senors as its an easier option then having the tires dismounted off of the Off Road wheels, and switching the sensors over to the new wheels.

Everything Ive read about the mini VCI tool is that it runs off of Windows XP.

Will it run off of Windows 8?

If you have a good set of toyota TPMS sensors you can just get the tire shop to reprogram your ECU with the new sensor IDs.

True. But I still want to get the VCI tool for other things as well if it works on Windows 8.
