    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
    Nice looking pooch.

I would sell the cap, your truck looks much better without it.

I'm older and until recently used the term "shell" on the forums.
I still use the term "shell" when I'm speaking... I only use "cap" on the forums.
"Topper" I remember being used for a few years, but mobile devices have pushed for the more efficient "cap" (and "lid" for a hard tonneau)

I like my cap on my truck. Then i always have caps on my trucks. I dislike tonneau covers. So go figure, theres always a different point of view. Just do what you like, who cares what others think.

I personally think the cap defeats most of the reason I have a truck but I can certainly understand the need for one in lots of situations. I like the look of the truck without it about as much as I like the look with it though.

The pooch platform looks great. Nice work.
Yeah, caps. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
i have noticed with my truck that there is no best option...there are just many options.

Ranch Topper, Bull Bar.....Yes, I know everyone thinks they are crap, I like the look
    The cap looks good.
Keep the dog in the air conditioned cab.....the dog will be happier.
Keep the cap if it does not interfere with your using the bed.

My pups love being in my DC and I do like to have them close, but after an incident my mother had- I prefer to keep them in a crate secured in the back for safety (there's and yours). A minor accident and the dog can go flying in the cab- a danger for both the front seat passengers and the dog. An 85lb missile flying around in the cab can ruin your whole day. Just something to consider.

Where did the cap rub the cab?

Mine sits only on the bed and there is about and inch of clearance between the two. No rubbing?

    Beautiful truck!

How quickly can you retract your Softopper, and is it water tight? I'd love it if you posted a link to where you bought it.

    Thanks.

I do lots of hunting/camping etc. Throwing dead deer in the back of a 4Runner is a no-go. With a truck/cap, you can hose down the bed and be done. The built-in hotel room (thanks to the shell) allows me to pull up to a outdoor spot, unload gear, then later sleep in the back with a roof over my old head.

I had a cap but sold it. There were a few times where I needed to haul something taller and the cap was a bitch to take off and put back on. I ended up getting a bestop In case I need to take my dogs on a longer trip. It takes ten minutes to put on and take off and it's a lot lighter. If I take my dogs to the dog park and they get wet I just put them in the open bed.

I think he was referring to one of the post he highlighted. Another member said ditch the front window and put a rubber seal from cap to cab and that is what rubbed the paint.

The new rubber boots are designed to contact the window, not the paint.
The other option it to get the accordion style boots that connect to the opening in the shell and the opening in the cab, once the window has been removed. This style is completely sealed against the elements and allows a complete pass through.
Either way, "NO" paint damage on the cab...

I had one on a 86' F150 Lariat some years ago. Looked nice but I way too much loss in my rearview line of sight plus, I do not need a cap as I store very little in my bed so I have a hard tri fold cover on mine.

Looks good both ways to me.

I can't use a cap (canopy for our Canadian friends) because I don't have a utility trailer. If I had a trailer I "might" consider getting a cap. But a cap limits what you can put in the bed therefore the need for the trailer.

With the front window of the cap removed and the boot to seal the cap against the rear of the cab to allow passthrough.
The boot seals against the cab, but every vibration and movement in the bed wears on the paint.

I compromised on my '06 Duramax and got a front slider on the cap, so I had passthrough if needed (but it wasn't weather sealed.)

This is why I would choose the accordion style that actually connects to the same lip that the window attached to...
