I try to take some like this once in a while, in Houston it doesn't work out too well.

 

Have a ton of points on my credit card. Looking at a gopro black or a nice point and shoot camera. I have an older dslr and a waterproof point and shoot but want something faster and better than the waterproof but smaller than the dslr. But the gopro would catch some totally different types of situations.

 

Gage and I both have a Sony Alpha A6000. Great cameras on the smaller side and still allows you to change lenses. A GoPro would definitely be nice too, i would still really like one. I'm still kicking myself for selling my old one.

 

Doesn't work in St. Louis either.

I'd get a nicer camera first. Photos are easier to get really into and better at capturing memories I think. Gopro later.

You'll use the camera FAR more in life then the gopro.

 

You should have got a sweet shot of the milky way!

Not sure! Dry fork is a single track I believe and after looking up all the trails everything goes through private land. I'll send you a text right now.

 

It's a tough decision because my canon dslr will take amazing photos, especially if I were to take the time to learn to shoot and get a couple more lenses. The waterproof actually takes decent shots too but is super slow at focusing and startup. We have a decent camcorder too so we are not hurting for anything. But since I hike, ride a motorcycle, wheel, have kids who will be starting to do stuff like ride bikes, etc I think a super-tough versatile video camera might be good. Then again I could not get any new camera and just get a new lens for the dslr...

You guys bring up Good points but I still can't decide

 

I say go for the GoPro for your situation. You'll be able to get all kinds of really cool photos and videos with one. They're tough, you can take it everywhere, you can mount it in weird places and get some really cool footage, they have a plethora of mounts for them to fit your needs and so on and so forth. Considering you already have a nice DSLR i'd say just keep that and get another lense down the road or somthing. Like i said i'm still kicking myself for selling my old crappy gopro.

 

If you don't take the cannon out now because its bulky and you don't want to lug around a camera that big then get a MILC. If you don't take it out because you don't really care for taking photos then don't bother getting a new camera.

Get the gopro if you really think its something you will use. I wouldn't get one until I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket. I know I wouldn't upload videos or really edit them much currently. Do I want one? Yes, but thats just the cool factor of it tempting me.

I would use the cannon though. At least for truck photos or around the house. You'll never catch me lugging a DSLR through the mountains in a pack though.

 

Had a great weekend in Jackson. Revisited some spots I've shot before but with a new take. Ground squirrels were everywhere!!! lol

Well thanks for the input guys, I went with the gopro. When I showed up to meet the guy he had an extra battery, chest mount, helmet mount, flat and curved sticky mounts, never been used and wanted just $350. I folded under the temptation

 

Fuck apple products. Something as simple as a damn folder in "notes" is not possible.
