Having owned duratracs from like 2009 and going through a couple set it feels and LOOKS to me from when they are new they are either manufactured in a different factory or they cheapend out on the materials.

Getting 30 mpg on the highway

The manager at the shop I have been dealing with said they have stopped carrying them since there are so many tires defected :(. Hence the wait for replacements.

I have a set of pro comp 7089 and having big vibrations problems with 2 different models of tires including the DURATRAC.

Not being able to have a good balance with different shops i've done it myself with a friend who's having a balancing machine. It was a very difficult job and we spent something like 2 hours on it. No shop will spend 2 hours on a balancing. I have 2 wheels with so much weight, it's ridiculous. Something like 18 oz. We've put them on the rear of the truck and install the 2 with less weight in front.

But you know what? After switiching tire models, we had alomost the same amount of weights and on the same Wheel so for me most of the problem is the procomp wheels and not the tires. Large AT tires are difficult to balance but doesn't necessitate over 1 pounds of weight!

Those procomp are probably another nice chinese product.

Wow when I read the reviews before I bought them I did see a lot of complaints about balancing. I put new wheels on at the same time and had bad vibes at 60-65 mph but it was because the bozos used the stock lug nuts where my wheels required the conical style. I've only had minor vibes since and get them rebalanced on each rotation. Maybe I got lucky. That said I do love them in the snow and off road but not on the street so I may just get another set of street friendly wheels/tires and use them off road?

Thinking about switching from my highway terrains to a set of these, road noise and ride quality I don't mind but I am concerned with them killing my mpg. If I stuck to a C load tire about how much should I expect to lose?

i just bought a set of load C's last weekend and i haven't found out how many mpgs i've lost yet. i also live in NC and the hills over here are killing me! but from what i can tell so far i don't think i've lost much. i've driven around 150 miles and i'm just above half a tank. i try to keep it under 2000rpm and drive like a grandpa.

I've had these tires for about 25k miles now, on 2 different tacomas. As for mpg, I may have lost 1-2. On a trip I regularly get just under 22 mpg.

HOWEVER, these tires are just a burden now. They were fine for the first 17k or so miles, but now it's just one thing after another. Vibrations and balancing issues. 2 different shops couldn't get them balanced, and now the truck vibrates going down the highway. They get louder as they age and they're cupping. I rotate every 5k miles and have had the truck realigned twice thinking that was the issue. It wasn't though, all numbers were good.

I won't buy these tires again and if I had to do it all over I would go with a different brand tire. I want them gone!

Hmmm, good to know I may end up trying out goodyear's all terrain adventure with kevlar. The duratracs seem a little aggressive and my current Dunflops have some balancing issues so I definitely dont want another hard to balance tire. Thanks for the info man!

Thank you guys.. It comes out to be touch over 6"s
I got them off ebay but I also trimmed them to the way i like them.
I have had no problems balancing my 315 70 17 35" tall duratracs. They ride very smooth.

I was all ready to order some DuraTracs until I read these horror stories about issues balancing and road noise.

I guess I'll be ordering the BFG ATs now. I'm looking for a long lasting tire (40 - 50k) that can handle snow and some off-roading when I do go, but most of my diving is on the road so comfort is a big deal.

I have a set that came on a 4runner I bought. 265-75r16. They were pretty much new when I got them. I was impressed with them in winter, but when I got them in the mud in summer I was done with them. I had to FLOOR IT to get anywhere in any mud even if it's only 2" deep. These are one of the milder tires I've tried out in the trails though so maybe if you went with these from ATs you'd think they were awesome? They are pretty good for running dirt roads especially if you drop pressures, they'll dig right in. They wore all %*#@) up in the middle treads after about half tread. They had an alternating heel-toe wear thing going on. I haven't seen it that bad in other tires that I can recall. They were just as loud as full on mud tires at that point. Would not buy these again for my uses.

30,000 miles and no issues. I wonder if they went cheap on materials more recently?
I know two other guys with them bought at the same time and neither has complaints.

Did take 2 seperate attempts to balance when I first bought them though, par for the course with these tires, but I would still highly recommend.

Ran BFG AT on last Tacoma for 10 years. Don't notice any more noise with DuraTracs and certainly better on wet pavement. I take them in for rotations every 5k miles for free. Over 30k miles and no issues so far. Not sure what folks expect from an aggressive AT.

Have 40k on my Duratracs. 265/75/16 on base model steel wheels.

Loud as hell. Also they feel like the goodyear factory made the mold off a free-hand drawing of a circle. They should go into the camshaft business instead.

Goodyear Tire keeps the balancing weight industry alive and well. These tires will be the last Goodyear tires I ever buy.
