    Hello,

recently since the weather has warmed up i have noticed that my breaks have started to make alot of noise like a really loud squeal upon stopping. I took it back to the dealer and their service tech took it for a drive and said they couldnt replacate the sound, even though it happens everytime. They told me that i have to wait till it becomes more noticable until they would be willing to do anything about it, but they still charged me on the bill to investigate . is this a common problem? and is there anything i can do about it myself? id rather not take it back to them, be charged and tell me they dont hear anything. Would it help if i sprayed it with brake cleaner?

    Thanks for your help.

Is your truck still under warranty? If so, I wouldn't have paid for them to look at it - if not, it's a typical business....

Is it coming from the front or rear?

Brakes are a wear item, not covered under warranty. Not saying charging you was the right thing to do but I'm sure that's the excuse you'll get.

I would not have paid them to look at it under the 36 /36 bumper to bumper warranty. I would keep bringing it back and Ride Along with the tech so you can point the noise out for him.

I think there is a TSB for this issue.

Ya i believe it is a wear item and thats pretty much the excuse they would use even though i have bumper to bumper warrenty, i didnt think they would actually charge me for it though. my truck has 30,000kms it shouldnt have loud brakes. That would be great if there is a TSB for this issue, than i would have a fighting chance, does anyone know where i could find this or could provide a link? im going to wait for a really hot day since thats when it acts up the most, and get a ride along, or drive past one of the employees in the parking lot and hit the brakes so they can back me up that its actually doing what i say.

There is a Toyota TSB covering the rear brake squeak. Take it back if you're still under the 3/36 and get it fixed...and your money back. They aren't allowed to charge for inspections. Brake wear is not covered under warranty, because it's a wear item...proper brake function is on the other handed.

I had the same issue. Dealer kept giving me the run around {weather, harder brake pads, warranty don't cover brakes, bla bla bla bla} So after a couple of time complaing I brought in my truck for the 25000 mile oil change and showed them the TSB and they acted as if they didn't know what a TSB was LOL.. Then he goes I'm not sure if this applies to your truck I'll have to ask. I'll give you a call when i figure this out. A day later they call me and confirm that my truck was in order for that TSB and had ordered the parts. So as soon as the parts arrive they'll get it fixed. The thing is that it was my front brakes that were squeeking like crazy and after they did the rear brake TSB it went away. Give that a shot and sorryI don't remember what the exact TSB number was but a search on here will fetch it real quick.
