I would love to sign up to be a driver with my taco. I bet I could make more money off the youtube video's of people finding Jesus in the passenger seat than off the service.

" So, uh, what size helmet do you wear?" :D

This has to be the stupidest thing ever. I wonder how many of these morons are robbed and killed or maimed due to giving rides.

It's more or less a taxi service with ur own vehicle. Depending on state laws lyft or uber drivers need to have taxi licenses. Sooo it's not that sketch, the people who use this device I have noticed are mostly younger people. Yes the customers could be sketch but still it's just a taxi alternative, now letting drunk people in my truck that's another story.

Sketch? WTF is that a drawing? English much?

Younger people need to get a job and get their own ride. :) Especially if they are "Sketch". What ever the fuck that means.

Not even using urban dictionary, merriam Webster describes "sketch" in noun tense, that can be used to describe a person. In this sense it was implied to be "shady" or "a person possibly with alterior motives".

I imagine Lyft was initially founded for more metropolis cities. And as any business, it decided to expand and branch out to other cities. It may or may not work in those cities. I have only seen 1 Lyft driver in San Diego.

I'm not sure if this is Lyft but my understanding is you could pick the person/vehicle to pick you up. Including younger people, it is foreigners that are using it since they don't own a vehicle most the time. They seem more open to take this kinda risk. Ha, geez people I'm sure the investors have thought of the legal issues. What if Lyft did a background check on the passengers? I imagine as OP posted, most do this as a second income on fri/sat to earn a little extra cash for mods :). Wouldn't you rather have a sober driver than a drunk one?

Wow just read the wiki post. These guys have raised 83 million!

On a side note there is another similar company like this however instead of just using ur vehicle and one passenger, the driver can pick up other people that are along the route and you share some of the fee. Lol it's like a mobile car subway.

You guys are funny. They make these things called guns. They allow an 80 year old lady to defend herself from a gang of thugs. They also make these things called balls, and they allow you to defend yourself from a gang of thugs with your bare hands. Take some self defense courses or enroll in martial arts of some flavor and stop living in fear.

You can know all the self defense in the world and have a cannon strapped to you. When a round comes blazin through your seat back, not much you're going to be able to do.

Lyft and Uber is slowly replacing traditional cabs in CA. It's cheaper, faster, and the cars are usually nicer than shitty old crown vics. They get to your location quickly, you can pick which driver you want based on ratings, and you can keep using your favorite driver.

It's common sense really, crowd-sourced and social-media based ride-sharing. What is so hard to understand?

Do it in a 15 MPG taco? No. Do it in a 30 MPG sedan, yes.

And for the people talking about getting killed as the driver, I wonder how you act when you are walking in public, taking public transportation, riding an elevator, taking a regular cab from a driver you trust so much, going to a party with strangers present, being in a room with people you don't know, etc. It's your choice what risks you want to take but damn I feel bad for you guys for being so reclusive or scared.

All those situations, at least you have a fighting chance to defend yourself. Someone at your back with no real way to turn around, constrained by a seatbelt, and you're paying attention to the road and others outside the vehicle. You're toast. Everytime.

Thats exactly right. Can't keep much of an eye on people sitting right behind you.
