Not as far as I know, but if Toyota wants to be innovative then that, IMO, I the way to do it.

First off... Welcome to the forum.

The first and second gen Tacoma have been fantastic trucks. It will be tough to completely redesign them to improve on what we have. JMHO

I have seen a good bit of other auto makers making hybrid diesel concept trucks. It may not happen but it is very possible that it could in the US. Toyota blows tons of money on r&d in thr hybrid electric department. Some things you will see are more electronically driven systems on the next gen tacoma. They are already putting that stuff into effect on the new Tundra. Electric power steering, throttle by wire, cooling system, so on and so forth. All you really have to do is look at government regulation change dates and you will know that toyota will be making compliant cars before then if they arent already. I guarantee the new tacoma will have a six speed or possibly 8 speed transmission. When fullsize dodge rams get 25 mpg, they really have to use every trick in the book to validate buying a midsize truck.

Bringing this thread back to life! I sold both of my Tacomas.... a 99 4x4 and a 2000 regular cab. Naturally, I want another one, so I went over to my local Toyota dealership to see some... I just cant believe these 4.0 V6 engine make such low numbers. My wifes 3.5 Highlander makes more power. Its a crying shame. I was going to pull the trigger, but for now I will stick to my Corolla. I know that Toyota might not need to switch things up, but the new chevy colorado will have more power in their V6 engine. Toyota needs to get it together.

I hope not. Its a great truck and it served its purpose when it came out 10 years ago. Now its time to refresh the engine and capabilities.

Really? What on the market is more capable than the current '14, Short Bed, TRD-Off Road with A -Trac? Maybe a Rubicon Wrangler and a Mercedes G-Wagen but that's it. The FJ is dead as of 2014. How much more capable can it get? You want it faster say? They make a oem supercharger you can purchase over the counter.

While I agree a decade is a long run for a model, but if you are Toyota why would you spend millions of dollars on re-tooling and development when they still have a demand/ cult following for the current model?

I would love to see a new model, but I'm scared Toyota might screw up the design or make it too soft.

I am not worried about losing a real frame. You guys can make fun of the ridgeline all day but in the end you can make a strong, good towing unibody vehicle.

    VW Touareg.
Unibody with 7800# towing, good offroad and 25mpg combined with the TDI.
The 4Runner doesn't even compete anymore, it has a real frame and can only tow 5000.

The Tacoma feels outdated every time I drive it. To me it feels like a 2005 vehicle even though mine is a 2011 and I've tested the 2014 and they are the same.

Toyota only has sterling reliability with the truck, if they lost that they would have nothing. I am going to wait for the next Tacoma before I buy a new vehicle but it is killing me to do so.

While Chevy and Nissan and even Honda are giving teasers of their new product Toyota is keeping their owners in the dark. I would love to know the engine choice because that will make it or break it for me. I will not settle for another under achieving Toyota gas engine that can't even get close to th claimed gas mileage.

As stated above, Dodges ecodiesel gets 25+ (I tested one and got 26) and the Touareg's get 28!

Anything less than 25 and I won't consider a new Tacoma and any slower of a truck and again it will be off my list.

I do not need a full size truck, I did not like the interior and I do not trust Chrystlers reliability.
