I've seen one half door setup I like and it's this guys:

    20130413_161453_1046aedaa4457f0d4365b59064fdd713c2dc59c0.jpg

It's beefy, has a cup holder, and can be snapped shut.

    Bone stock. For now.
I think I just might order myself a Gen 2 Supercharger. My fiancé was totally cool with it. And you know what they say, strike while the iron is hot!

Is the clutch groan from the return spring or from the hydraulics?

I like my Marlin Crawler clutch. JLee did an LCE I think with a heavy flywheel and likes it. Of course, he has bigger tires and a heavier vehicle than I do. If I ever go to 35s, I'll be considering it.

After seeing the attention to detail, I am a fan of the TGP flywheel but they are expensive ($360). Depending on how long you can have the vehicle down, might be worth getting the stock one machined.

The whirling noise when you depress the clutch pedal (disengage, or throw, the clutch) is most likely the throw bearing. That should be done when you do the clutch along with the pilot bearing. I think it is included in the Marlin kit but want to verify.

Love my marlin clutch. Got the HD clutch kit, the high pressure bolts and a new flywheel from marlin as well. TOB comes with the kit I think.

Flywheel pics can be found here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/259729-tomtoms-03-trd-xtra-cab-36.html#post8678223

Per the FSM, the OEM (TGP) flywheel is machinable. I'm guessing the POS that was installed in mine was a NAPA special or something similar. I don't know about the Marlin flywheel but during my research into the flywheel/starter problem, I ran across a thread mentioning that Marlin felt their flywheel was good but that TGP was better.

The Marlin clutch kit uses a bunch of Aisin and other Japanese manufactured parts. They are considered on par with TGP.

Don't know if you can have your vehicle down for a bit but, like I said, would be worth the savings if you can get it turned at a machine shop. Bad thing is, you won't know the condition until you get in there.

Like tomtom said, the bearings are OE quality. The flywheel I got was because I was planning on doing it myself and would not be able to get it turned. I do feel that the one I had got from Marlin will outlive the truck.

Im curious about the whirling sound does it anything like this:

    http://youtu.be/BHvMob5ja1k

or is it more like the throw out bearing making noise. Ive still yet to completely solve my tranny issue

If you haven't done the brake return spring mod, do that.

A few questions I'd ask myself:
    1. Is the starter disengaging from the flywheel?
    2. Is something rubbing on the throw fork?
    3. Any damage to the friction plate or the cover plate during the install?
    4. Was the friction plate installed with the correct face facing the engine?

yes. that will get rid of the annoying squeak created by the goofy torsional spring. When humidity goes up here (which it actually does from time to time), my clutch spring gets squeaky as hell. I've got the brake return spring on my to-order list for next month.

If you got a squeak from the hydraulics, that's a totally different matter.

brake return spring mod?? haven't heard of that one

My tranny noise didn't start after replacing my clutch. that was the reason I replaced it because Toyota told me it was my throw out bearing so I replaced it myself. the noise was still there when I was done. so I did more troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that it was the tranny so I puled it again and had it rebuilt by a reputable local tranny shop. the noise is not as loud and is not always there now. the guy at the shop said everything was fine on the inside.

The linear spring mod is a must.

Buy the brake pedal return spring from the dealer ($2.50) and remove the torsion spring contraption and replace it with the brake return spring. Tab is already welded behind the lower dash panel for connection.

IIRC the 4 cyl manual transmissions already use the linear spring and not the torsion spring. Hence the tab already welded in place.

Does anyone know if toyota would sand cast different FJ TRD rims all with the same part number embedded?

Ebay seller got back to me and said all the colors use the same blank in manufacturing, but added a sticker with a different part number to differentiate colors. Not sure if bull or not...

Discovered the noise in my rear end. This is a pic of my brand new oem wheel bearing installed by toyota. 3/8" of up and down play in the axle.
First pic shows bearing flush to backing plate, 2nd pic shows 3/8" gap between the top of the backing plate and top of the bearing. Its the same on both axles. qyjybe9e_16af3efff0aa6c464b710f6b8045db2cd1fec990.jpg
