I reread that and its incoherent rambling. I'm sorry about that.

They don't know if it's some side effect from the heartworm treatment or an autoimmune disease that's popped up randomly or because of the treatment. We don't know if its acute or chronic. All we know at the moment is his blood counts and platelets are dangerously low, but in true pitbull fashion he thinks he's fine and wants to play. Hopefully the docs can tell me more tomorrow.

ah that's no good.. I foresee a blood transfusion in his near future.. hopefully he will get better...heartworms can cause this ... while the heartworms are dying the dog uses the platelets ... do they automatically have him on heartworm prevention?

Id do the same, back in April 2007 i adopted 2 mutts, i went to York, SC to see one, came home with brother and sister. In one of the pics Eddy posted you can see Upo in the back seat just chilling. Ube sister was most likely sitting behind him.

He's been on heartworm preventative since he got to the shelter in Feb. He couldn't start heartworm treatment till he was in a foster home and we got him at the beginning of May. Then he had a horrible UTI that tool almost a month to get under control. Xrays today looked normal but if an US is ordered tomorrow it won't surprise me.

just something to think about for future reference.. dogs who get heartworms can stay on heartworm prevention without treatment and the worms can't reproduce and will die in 4-6 yrs. I offer this method to owners who can't afford the actual treatment .. but i'm shocked the SPCA hasn't adopted that since it would be most affordable method ..but again if treatment is possible I recommend the immiticide injections
