Have a great vacation Tom and be safe:D:thumbsup:

I see a rant or two coming:eek::rant::rant: on this subject...

Had the same problem years ago...couldn't do this cause I had to mow the lawn, couldn't do that cause I had house maintenance to do...etc., etc...finally the wife had enough and we moved into a new home in a 55 community and it is really good. No more mowing, fertilizing, snow shoveling and life is good:D

The Tacoma is a great "young man's truck". That's why you don't see an "80+ Thread".

 Mornin' ... Have a great trip Tom.
 I'll monitor Live and just try to ignore the mucked up posts, if you know what I mean. ;)
Not gonna rant ... Really I'm not :frusty:

Considering going the retirement community route ... Didn't realize they started at 55. Better talk to the wife and look into that a little more; there's a pretty nice one right here in Palmer.

    Mornin' Ken

:( Really sorry man. Hang in there brother.

Well played Sir, very well played indeed. :)

Just got back home from the airport and received text from BIL that they are boarding now. In-law invasion 2014 complete and I survived. :yay: I think we all actually enjoyed the visit despite the logistical challenges of keeping so many people (15 total at the high point) organized and moved around to the various activities. The house seems so strangely quiet now.

So here I am :pccoffee: with Bear sleeping at my feet. ;)

I have two, but I'm not so sure I hear much better with them in. Make sure you try them out in a busy restaurant, I don't understand a word said in there, so I just turn them off.

I got all you old coots beat on this one. I've been wearing at least one hearing aid for over 20 years. I started wearing one in my right ear first, then a few years later needed binaural aids.

I'll never forget when I realized I needed them. I was at my then-employer's annual engineering dinner, where the cheap pricks were handing out $75 certificates as 'reward' to people who busted their asses all year long. But I digress. Anyway, I was at the bar getting a beer (EDIT: Yuengling Lager) when I happened to look to my right, and there was a guy standing there talking to me. If I had not turned I never would have known it.

So here's my hearing aid advice.

    • Don't wait. Every day you wait is another day you miss out on a chunk of life - sound.
    • Don't cheap out. Shop around for sure, but pay for quality. I paid $5600 for the pair I'm using now. They're 4 years old and still ticking along (knock wood!). That's about $3.75/day -- and going down -- to be able to hear what people are saying, to hear phone conversations, to hear music and birds and throaty exhausts and trains going through the valley on the other side of the hill early in the morning. Seems pretty cheap to me.
    • Find an audiologist you trust. Preferably, find one that sells multiple brands. You don't want someone who only sells one brand. If you can't find that, see about going to a hospital or somewhere else that does not sell aids at all, and just getting the hearing test; they might have a service that helps you choose what works best for you.
    • Give the hearing aids, and yourself, a chance. In most cases people have been losing their hearing for years, or decades; suddenly being able to hear again is a shock to the brain. Wear them for a few hours a day, in quiet settings, then move up the hours.
    • Don't settle for an uncomfortable fit. I wear aids that go completely in my ear, and they take getting used to. So do the behind-the-ear models. But neither one should be outright unpleasant to wear. If it is, it needs to be refitted.
    • Don't settle for hearing aids that don't improve your hearing (also see "don't cheap out"). If you can't hear what people are saying in a crowded room, they either need to be adjusted or replaced. With my aids and their high falutin' programs I sometimes hear better than my wife in those situations, and she has normal hearing.
    • In my experience multiple programs trump a single automatically adjusting system. YMMV.
    • Here's a wild one - consider going overseas to buy them. I'm told that my $5600 Siemens are $1500 or so in Europe. The difference will buy plane tickets and then some.
Okay, climbing down from the soapbox.

Wow Charlie ... It's like stepping back in time; your garage is like a mechanical time capsule ... and so very freakin' cool!

So very WBO-like. :D
That's some very worthwhile advice ... Never hurts to get the perspective from someone who has BTDT ... Besides the folks here being a lot of fun, it's the main reason I like hanging around all you cool old dudes. Thanks for passing along the advice.

I only wanted one for the left ear cause the missus sits to my right all the time:D...

That's one place I need to try them out...always have a problem in crowded restaurants or bars:thumbsup:

Good advice wdb...the audiologist I went to offered pretty much the same advice and offered many options and styles of aids:D...in 2 weeks I get to spend $5800 for them. 30 day trial period so I'll be trying them out.

got one aid here, but need 2 so the one most of the time sits on the top of my dresser. when one needs 2 and has one. it tends to make things to loud and small things like paper being crumpled sound awefull. aid 2 is on top of the list of needed items.

whick bike do you want back sue? the Kawasaki that turned heads last night or the chopped pan head.
took the triple to the drive in night. had a bundle of ricer heads looking it over and one dude on a Harley tell them their nuts were not big enough to ride it. he sure knew the bike just by looking at it. knew right off that I had 500R jugs stuck on it. asked about the motor some more, shocked to hear it was a now very rare denco performance stage 3 race motor

yes mike before you ask,i do double oil it. pump and in the tank. can't chance burning a piston. those came from a 350 2 stroke twin,

I think it's pretty cool that some of the old Japanese tech from the 60's and 70's is starting to get attention. The Japanese were doing some innovative stuff then.

Good morning folks. I had a really early wakeup today, had to be in Jersey in time for a call with people overseas. Thank goodness for coffee.

Looks like rain today. Oh well, I wasn't all that excited to mow the lawn today any way. Looks like I'll take another invasion recovery day. Back to work tonight.

Got a chainsaw running, the coal stove cleaned and put back together, and reinstalled AVG virus protection. Somehow I lost it; maby through updating anti-malware????? Says you are supposed to disable the anti virus protection when installing it, but I don't know how to do that. :notsure:
As for the coal stove; got to get ready, only 4 months till heating season starts!
