The local Dicks and Academy sporting goods stores have handgun safes by Stack On. Just gotta find something sturdy to bolt them to.

For those of you that carry, do any of you find your self picking a gun to carry based on how you are dressing? I was having a conversation today with a friend about it. For example, if in dressing up I tend to carry my ppk/s, but when just hanging out with friends I'll grab a DB9 in the summer or a full size 1911 in the winter

Yep. People put way too much weight in what 'feels right in your hand' for a carry gun when that's near the bottom of the list when I'm selecting a carry gun. Weight and shape are paramount because that's the part that matters 99.99% (100% for most) of the time. I carry the largest/heaviest I'm able to given the clothing I'm wearing that day.

I've done it but I'm a larger frame gent too. I don't recommend it nor would I do it again since there's really no reason.

Definitely, I'm stuck to .380s during the summer. I will be trying out a M&P shield though per my Dad's(LEO) advice. We shall see...

They suck to shoot too. Got an LC9 for my girl. I hate shooting it. You really gotta grip to hell out of it to get off a decent follow up shot. I'd like to try the XDS 9, but I'm sure it isn't much better

It's actually quite a bit better. I had both as well as many other of the 'pocket' 9mm offerings. I carry the XDs 9 more than any other handgun I own (not counting my LCP B.U.G. which I always have) Sold the LC9. 'Nuff said.

If it wasn't for the mile long crappy trigger the LC9 would be the perfect "little nine". Calloway makes aftermarket triggers for them, but even if it made the trigger 50% better it's still be crappy.

Definitely try the S&W Shield. I'm not a big guy at all (5'7 and 160lbs) and I have one as my daily carry for whenever I'm wearing anything heavier than a light cotton Tee Shirt.
Best DA trigger I've found in a small gun. I tried the LC9 and it felt like it was full of sand. The Shield has a nice crisp break and a smooth pull. It's a little snappy to shoot, but no worse than any other small 9 I've tried.

Jah, if you've got a good holster and a solid belt a 1911 is actually surprisingly easy to conceal. They're a narrow enough gun that they really don't bulge noticeably.
Of course, I'd rather have an officer's model if I had to conceal a 1911. A 5" barrel blends in with my skinny ass better than a 7" barrel does.

The XDs 9 trigger is superior to that of the Shield 9mm and the shape/size/weight is nearly identical. I own both so I'm not just bashing on guns I don't own either. IMO the XDs 9 is the closest to a Glock single stack sub-compact or 'pocket' gun that we have right now. Some say the Kahr CM9 is but I tend to think that the XDs 9 is closer to the Glock in quality, feel, balance and reliability. My Kahr sits in the safe.

Meh. I've tried the XDs out as well. Not shooting it, just sizing it up at the local gun shop. Maybe it's because I'm used to the Smith now, but I still prefer the Shield's trigger to the XD's. Maybe it was just that gun, but the XD trigger felt mushier, almost. Or maybe it'd improve with shooting. I don't know, just personal preference, I guess.

You said XD several times so I just want to clarify that the trigger in the XDs is different than the trigger in the XD. Hell, even the trigger in the XDs 9 is different (better) than the trigger in the XDs 45. For the record I'm not a fan of XD triggers either.

Apologies for the ambiguity. I was referencing the XDs, which I do agree that it does have a better trigger than the rest of the XD lineup.

My favorite trigger is the SA/DA on my 5906. LOVE the SA reset on that gun.

Slightly off topic but of the 3 main polymer pistols XD, Glock and M&P the XD trigger is far and away the best when worked over by a good gunsmith. A buddy of mine gets into the .10 and .09 splits with his. He's a machine, but none the less. That's fast even for a 2011. You simply can't do it with a Glock or M&P.

Now back to the topic at hand
