I'm buying a 2012 TRD sport this weekend and I really like the URD s/c, but they haven't yet adapted their ucon ems to work on anything past 2008. Are the ecu pin outs on the 09-14 the same? I've contacted Boomslang to see if they can make an extension harness that I'll use to splice the ucon into. I just need the pinout info for the ucon and the 2012, or 09+ if they're the same.

My main question though, is it just a pin out change or are there new sensor differences that might not allow the ucon to work with the ecm?

 I would like to use that unit in my 2013 at some point in the future, very curious to see what sort of answers you find. When I asked Gadget a year or two ago I got a pretty flat no that they didn't have a harness that would work, but no specifics on why not.

I just got an answer from Boomslang. Toyota is restricting the sale for the connector of the ECM. looks like the only way to do it is find a wrecked vehicle and hack off the harness. Even then, that's not going to be a pretty solution.

Why not use a TRD supercharger instead?

The URD is capable of making more power, can upgrade to a 7th injector for more boost, and includes the ucon ems. You can remove all the parts and return the truck to stock without having to have the ECU reflashed.

On topic, I'm not sure if Boomslang was correct. Apparently, Unichip is able to build their system that has a plug and play connector. http://www.unichip.us/vehicle/vehicles/3573-2012-Toyota-Tacoma-40L

A few things you missed there.

The URD makes more power at high rpms (Rotary Type Supercharger vs the TRD Roots Type Supercharger). With the right pully the TRD will engage at much lower rpm's with more power than the URD due to the totally different designs. The TRD does come with less power "stock", but you could get nearly as much if not more power out of the TRD with the right upgrades and tune. The URD is more speed oriented, the TRD is more low end power oriented. Race truck = URD Supercharger, Mud truck = TRD Supercharger in the simplest terms. To each his own.

You can add the Ucon system and the "7th injector" (or just larger injectors) to a TRD charger if you really wanted too, or in the case of higher boost levels, needed too. Ucon as far as I know is pretty easy to tune, so it can easily be used to enhance a TRD supercharger. That's what I'd like to use it for eventually.

You cannot flash a TRD flashed ECU back to toyota stock, at least not with a toyota system. The flash is one way, upgrade only. According to my buddy at Toyota, you must find an old stock ECU to return a TRD Supercharged truck to stock.

And returning to topic, the Unichip is IMHO a piece of crud. They are a larger operation than URD though, and have chips covering more vehicles, so I'd assume they have better access to equipment to make there own harness. It wouldn't be that hard with the right machinery and fittings.

I didn't want this to turn into a URD vs TRD debate. I didn't really want to dive deep into why I wanted to go with the URD.

I didn't say to go with Unichip, only that they seem to have a harness made for it, so it's not impossible to get. Although, it's possible they are the manufacturer themselves. They do sell blank harnesses: http://www.unichip.us/categories/7-Blank-Harness-and-Sublooms/products. However, they don't list all the applications for each type, so I don't know which one would work.

Good to know, I honestly want to run the Ucon someday because I think it would fit my application very well. If you ever find a simple harness that works please PM me, it'd be a huge help when I'm ready to go that direction once my warranty is up.

It doesn't matter at the end of the day what supercharger you choose, it'll still be bitchin to play with :D

Reply from Unichip about which blank harness we need:

I don't see it on their site, so I replied asking where to get one.

Hmm, well once you get it all together let me know how it works. I just don't want to be the first guy to order it lol.

well, it might be a while :p. I gotta save up for the s/c first. Buying the truck is going to take a good chunk from my wallet.
