When I look inside the air vents, I can see a small piece of foam that appears to be lose. All my vents have it and looks lose. Does the foam have a purpose and why would it be lose? I am tempted to rip it out, thinking that it will increase the air flow.

If you pull that foam, your next post will be, "How do I get rid of this whistling sound from my vents?" The foam is a go between/seal from where the front part/face of the dash is connected. It looks as if the foam has slipped out. Is it under warranty? If so tell them there is a decrease of airflow from the HVAC and they may fix it.

thanks for the tip. I am over 50K miles, so I might try to push the foam into a better sit with some chopsticks or something.
