    Hi everybody,

Sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance for all the advice given on this topic

So I purchased the Mount Rainier RTT during the group buy and was going to mount the RTT to my Snugtop topper that i already have with my existing Yakima bars. I ended up calling Snugtop to verify weight capacity and per them i can only have 200 lbs on the roof, but they would not clarify if that was a static or dynamic weight load. I have been spending lots of time on the forum and reading about static and dynamic weights and it seems like i might be OK with installing the tent on the Yakima bars on the topper because per the CVT website the tent only weighs 150 lbs, therefor i am under the 200 lbs limit. Problem is once i get my entire family in the tent i am over the 200 lb limit but this load will only be static. thoughts will this work or not? Would you risk it at all if you were me?

Secondly i have no problems buying some Yakima bars for the cab of my truck. I have a four door so plenty of room for the RTT on top. Per research on the forum we can hold 500 lbs on our roofs. I then called Yakima and was told that the bars will only support 100lb so once again hitting a wall. I then re-checked the CVT site and they are suggesting using Yakima or Thule bars for the tent. This would be my preferred set up with the tent over the cab on two Yakima bars and then my basket over the topper. Once again would you install your new tent on your cab and feel OK with it with the above information i have researched.

I have also searched for ladder racks that fit the second gen but not really finding much. I have another thread asking about this and found a few options but none are ideal.

Thoughts on what you guys would do if you were me? I am not a metal worker so building hoops for the inside of the topper like i have seen some do will probably not work. If need be i could find someone to do this for me but would prefer not to.

Thanks again for all the help and advice/input on this topic.

I had the same issue. I actually spoke with CVT and they said it was not a problem. Hope this helps but mine has only been stored for one month or so so i have no direct answer besides I called and they said it was ok.

I have a snugtop xtravision and run my RTT on there with no problems yet. Also if you are looking at different options for racks check out the link in my sig. I could technically mount mine to either rack (Cab or Topper) and it would be fine. I tend to leave it more over the topper because I like it to open up near the tailgate where all my gear is.

Do you know what snugtop states your weight limit is since i have a different model topper. I have been informed that some of their toppers are reinforced and some are not and you might have the reinforced version while i do not.

Thanks for the reply and advice, and wow you got a nice truck.

The trailer worked great, I did need to powder coat the shelf/air dam semi gloss black. On the way to Santa Margarita, we noticed a bright light coming from the polished diamond plate on the air dam  We lowered it for the rest of the drive.

Here is a picture showing the air dam, which is now black.

Hey, so I've been debating an RTT for a few months and I'm pretty sure that I want a Tepui Kukenam, but I have a couple questions. First, I have a dog (about 60 lbs) and I'm wondering if anyone has experience getting a dog into and RTT and if so, how are you doing it? Secondly, I do a fair amount of winter camping here in CO. How cold have folks camped in these comfortably? I have a down, -15F bag, but there's a big difference between being warm in a sleeping bag and being comfortable enough in a tent not to have a mental battle in the morning, putting on frosty boots.

I have a 105# dog. He sleeps in the truck. I am not sure I could load him into the tent. I also have a small dog bed for him and in the cold weather, I put a moving blanket in the cab as well.

I have been out in cold weather-freezing and a bit below. Plenty warm.

I've been keeping my pup in the tent. He's only 35-40lbs now so I justpick him up and toss him in. Depending on how he matures I'll decide if I continue to keep him in the tent. I plan on moving the tent forward so he can hop on the tailgate, then on the bed rack and enter through a window. Or I might have the tent open towards the tailgate. Ideally I will be starting on a trailer sometime soon and then I'll just have a ramp. I love my furry friend and he LOVES to sleep and LOVES a cozy bed too. I'll figure out a way to get him up there if he continues to sleep and not bark at every single sound.

Yeah I'm worried about it too. I used this idea from another member on here and tweaked it a little bit. It's not going keep it 100% theft proof but it'll keep honest people honest.

Are you modifying your current rack to work with rtt? Or got something else planned? Btw it was good wheeling with you, thanks for the killer spotting on the stairs.

Edit, not sure if you saw this pic - I got so excited after taking this one that I forgot to take more of you pulling the rest of the way up (facepalm)

I am working on mounting my CVT Mt. Bachelor and am wondering how the bottom cover piece mounts up to the tent. The instructions that came with the tent were not very detailed and I can't seem to find any videos on the webs showing how that part mounts, everything is good to go except for outer cover. The top cover is easy, just not sure how to mount the bottom cover.

Nevermind the above question, that piece that I was referencing is actually part of the annex I believe or a cover for storing the tent. I found the piece the rides in the rails of the tent that the cover zips too.

Once I figured that out though, I do have another question, do all tent covers have a raised part on the cover for the ladder? My cover does not have that and it is making the cover super tight on the back side when zipping it, so I am worried that the zipper will fail. Let me know about the cover. Thanks!

I don't know what sbugtop says because I bought mine used. It does have the honey comb portion of the roof that is for extra strength but I would be surprised if that constitutes the extra 500lb rating alone. Not sure if there is other reinforcement on mine.

Nice pic, never saw that one! Seems like no one got any pics or video of me taking my run up that left side  Oh well, always next time!
And always glad to help spot lines for people

Tent will be going on my bed rack, shouldnt really take any modifications. It's still not done though, I've got a lot more going on it! Just always searching for time to build my own stuff since I cant dip into business productive hours to work on my personal stuff.

Just mounted a Tepui Kukenam on a set of your bed bars. Super solid mount. Just had to get longer bolts for the larger tubing O.D. Enjoy!
