Well it was a tough long season for me but I got it done adding yet another 4yr old gobbler to my resume :D I ended up tearing the ligament in my shoulder, had other health issues on top of a crazy not gobbling very much strange year. Here are several clips of my hunting adventures. It’s not HD stuff, some clips are short & some are kind long. Filter through& watch what you want & I hope you enjoy it.

My buddy & his family have a camp about 10 or 15 minutes from Blacksville (right on the Mason Dixon Line) & I've been going there to for about 17yrs now.

When I lived in MD we use to hunt & fish down in Dolly Sods/Petersburg area for years. My buddy went in on a trout camp down off of Rt.33 near Seneca Rocks that I think I'll be fishing out of more when I head in for turkey camp. I wish I lived in or at least a lot closer to WV ;)

    Where are you?

I live in the southern part of the state, Mingo County. I was wondering because we had a weird turkey season down here also. Not much gobbling and there wasn't alot of turkeys killed this year. I did tag 1 early but he wasn't gobbling very much. Glad you like it here. Most people want to stereotype our state without ever visiting. It is " Almost Heaven"

Oh, you're down in big buck country :D Yes...West by God Virginia gets a bad rap but that's usually from folks that don't live the outdoor life & can't see what WV has to offer. They only drive through making jokes on there way back to urban homes.

Anyways, on a normal opening morning from where I started my WV season for the last 9 years I can hear 4 different ridges & 3 hollers. I always hear at least 3 up to 7 birds sounding off at 6:10 in any of those spots. This year opening morning, the first gobble I heard was at 7:30 & he gobbled 3 times & shut up. He was the only bird I heard the whole day & that crazy when you're hunting ridge tops like me & can usually hear in every direction for a good mile. In all my years of hunting down there, I've NEVER seen a season like this year in camp.

It's not because their not there....they are & I saw the same kind of shut down here in NH & in VT. Heck we saw long beards all over, just not during legal hunting hours :p

Late spring, it will be better next year ;) Good luck & always hunt safe....Tom

Yes I live in a bow only deer hunting county. Which means bigger bucks. I haven't even rifle hunted the last 3 years. I would rather bow hunt only. I hunt ridge tops also and I usually cover a lot of ground. Your problem sounds exactly like the same problem we had down here. Glad you like it here, God bless.

Nice Gobs! In PA, in my area we had a fairly quiet year for gobbling also compared to others. Don't get me wrong some days they were going crazy, but a lot of days they were just silent this year.

Me and my friends attributed it to the frequent swings in temp and rain/wind that we had around here. Hot one day to real cold the next day will shut them up real quick a lot of times. Still was able to put down a pair of gobblers with my best friend late in the day on the second Saturday though. Just gota be persistent!
